The building history of Mladý Smolivec spans from the early Gothic Church of St Giles to the Baroque Château of Starý Smolivec. There are also trails with different uses: the Formanská Trail for several types of activity and the Všerubská Route of the Way of St James. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, these differences can help you decide whether to focus on activity, culture or landscape.
Trails for different activities
Between Starý Smolivec and Dožice, the Formanská Trail is open to cyclists, inline skaters, runners and walkers; in winter, it can also be used for cross-country skiing. Along the route, visitors can use three rest areas with tables, benches, bicycle racks and waste bins. As facilities may change, check in advance if you need to know which amenities are available.
The Formanská Trail follows a route that served as an important country road for carters in the 16th and 17th centuries. Its present-day use and historical function therefore belong to different chapters of the same trail’s history.
The Všerubská Route of the Way of St James passes through Mladý Smolivec and can be used by walkers travelling southwest from Prague. Marked cycling route 2168 runs south from Míšov towards Chloumek; its total length is 19.3 km. These details provide different points of reference when choosing a route: for the Formanská Trail, the possible activities and rest areas matter, while for route 2168, they are the marked cycling route and its total length.
Churches and architectural history
The Chapel of St Lawrence in Mladý Smolivec dates from 1887. The early Gothic Church of St Giles in Budislavice dates back to the second half of the 13th century and has a Rococo high altar with a painting from 1859. The church thus brings together several distinct periods: its early Gothic construction, the Rococo altar and the later-dated painting.
The Renaissance Church of St Michael the Archangel in Dožice was built in the second half of the 16th century and extensively altered in the 19th century. The Baroque Château of Starý Smolivec dates from the mid-18th century. Together with the churches, these sites represent different historical periods, from the early Gothic era through the Renaissance and Baroque to later changes in the 19th century.
Landscape within the cadastral area
The landscape’s geographical setting is also varied: Pod Štědrým Nature Park extends into the cadastral area of Mladý Smolivec from the southwest. The Brdy Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Brdy) extends partly into its northern tip. These two areas therefore cover different parts of the cadastral area.
Festival and traditional walk
The Budislavice Rybí slavnosti (Budislavice Fish Festival) was held for the eighth time in Budislavice on 18 July 2026. The offerings at this edition included smoked carp, trout, African catfish, carp schnitzel and grilled mackerel; there were also carp fries, fish tartare, salad, gobies and fish soup. This selection of dishes relates to the 2026 edition; later editions may differ.
The traditional Pochod z obce do obce (Village-to-Village Walk) was also held for the 14th time in December 2025. That edition started in Budislavice and headed towards Mladý Smolivec.
