Dobřany lies on the right bank of the Radbuza, in a valley surrounded by green countryside and numerous wooded hills. Baroque churches, Lesopark Martinská stěna and the public Kotynka bathing biotope offer different ways to enjoy culture and time outdoors.
Squares and churches
Several picturesque town houses, the town hall and two churches stand on T. G. Masaryk Square. St. Nicholas Church has a freestanding tower, late Baroque frescoes and a Rococo organ. The Baroque Church of St. Vitus is considered an outstanding work by the Pilsen architect Jakub Auguston the Younger, dating from the first half of the 18th century. A freestanding tower stands apart from the church building; frescoes and a Rococo organ define the interior.
The rooms of St. Vitus Church are used as a gallery and house the permanent exhibition “Dobřanské baroko.” The church is open during the opening hours of the Dobřany Information Centre. Check these hours before your trip if you plan to visit. St. Vitus thus combines Baroque architecture with an exhibition, while St. Nicholas is distinguished by its tower, frescoes and organ.
Walking trail and bathing biotope
Lesopark Martinská stěna offers a walking trail of more than two kilometres, with 14 information stops. The park is accessible on foot only; vehicles can be left in the adjacent car parks. The trail length and the stops provide a clear structure for the walk, without assuming a particular walking time.
The natural public Kotynka bathing biotope is on Ústavní Street, between the Horní Kotynka and Dolní Kotynka ponds. During the summer months, it is a place for recreation, relaxation, leisure activities and sports. The water is kept clean biologically, without chemical treatment, using filter lagoons with water-purifying plants. Outdoors, visitors can choose between different activities: a walk with information stops or swimming and sports in summer.
Farmapark Dobřany is designed as a petting zoo. Visitors can feed and pet the animals in the enclosures; there are also playgrounds and attractions for children. This adds a dedicated option for animal encounters and play.
Brewery and getting there
Beer is brewed at the Dobřany brewery using traditional Czech technology and malt, hops and water. Yeasty, unfiltered beers are served. Alongside its churches and countryside, the town’s brewing tradition is another local highlight.
