A small rectangular village green, rural farmsteads and traces of vanished settlements give Horní Lukavice a clearly defined historical character. There is also a late Baroque chapel, a local cycle route and the Koupaliště on the Lukavický potok. Visitors planning a stay can get to know the place through its architectural history, landscape and leisure activities; for swimming and travel, check the latest seasonal information and timetables.

Village Green and Historic Centre

The historic centre lies east of the I/27 road, along the road to Dolní Lukavice and beside a local watercourse. Its basic layout consists of rural farmsteads arranged around a small rectangular village green. The farmsteads around the green include surviving gateway structures, which help shape the historic streetscape.

A late Baroque chapel, designated as a historically valuable building, stands on the village green. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, also designated as a historically valuable building, stands on the main road in Horní Lukavice. Together with the green, farmsteads and gateways, they create an impression of the place that can be read not only in individual buildings but also in the layout of the historic centre.

Finds and Vanished Villages

Horní Lukavice is mentioned in written records as early as 1216. Tiles and vessels were found at the site of the fortress; these finds add a specific archaeological link to the early written record.

The locations of the vanished settlements can also be distinguished geographically. The village of Lomy lay within the cadastral area of Horní Lukavice, west of the road. It was destroyed by Mansfeld’s troops at the beginning of the Thirty Years’ War. The forest west of the village, now called Háj, marks the site of another village, which probably disappeared during the Hussite Wars. Lomy’s destruction at the beginning of the Thirty Years’ War is recorded; the dating of the village at Háj remains probable rather than certain.

Landscape, Cycle Route and Seasonal Swimming

West of Horní Lukavice, the Dražky meadows lead into the U Vojtěcha forest. A recently restored and consecrated wayside shrine stands there. Local legend connects it with Saint Adalbert. Landscape and tradition meet here, but the legend should not be treated as an established historical fact.

The local cycle route CT 2187 connects Chlumčany and Letiny via Horní Lukavice, Dolní Lukavice, Krasavce, Vodomety and Řenče. Before setting off, check the latest route markings and conditions. Koupaliště Horní Lukavice is in the north of the village, on the Lukavický potok, and offers recreation and relaxation. It is open seasonally; check the conditions before your visit.
