Stod offers concrete starting points for a cultural stay: a striking Baroque façade on a building with a postal history, two religious buildings with different architectural features, the Vehicle Museum in buildings of a 16th-century brewery, and two named routes. This makes the town interesting for travellers who do not want to view history as just one single subject. When looking for a hotel in Stod, you can first decide whether architectural heritage, the history of transport, vehicles or a route should shape your stay.

Baroque façade and postal history

The Stará pošta has a striking Baroque façade with three richly decorated gables. The building was part of the Prague–Plzeň–Klenčí postal route and was already used as a letter and riding post in 1548. The three gables give the building a distinctive façade, while its postal function also places it within the history of letter and travel services. Suvorov is also associated with the building: Russian General A. V. Suvorov stayed there in 1799.

Two religious buildings, different architecture

The Church of sv. Máří Magdalény has three naves; its interior furnishings range from the Baroque to Classicism. Its layout and furnishings from several stylistic periods can therefore be considered side by side. The Špitální kaple is a central, hexagonal building from the early 18th century, with a pyramidal roof and a roof turret. In 1720, it received an altar dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. Those interested in sacred architecture can consider the two buildings from different perspectives: the church offers its spatial layout and stylistic range, while the chapel is notable for its hexagonal shape and the altar’s date.

Vehicles in a historic brewery

The exhibitions of the Vehicle Museum Stod are housed in buildings of a 16th-century brewery. The distinctive chimneys on the buildings bear the year 1544. The vehicles on display include Volkswagen Beetles and Porsche vehicles. The exhibition venue thus brings together two specific themes: the history of the brewery buildings and the vehicles on display. Those particularly interested in automotive history will find a different cultural focus here than at the religious buildings or the Stará pošta.

STODSKO and the Dětská trasa

The STODSKO educational trail begins at Komenského náměstí in Stod. Its later section is more suitable for cyclists because of the longer distances between some stops. This makes one specific difference within the trail relevant when deciding how to get around: the recommendation applies to the later section and is related to the distances between stops.

Another route, the Dětská trasa, runs through meadows along the Radbuza to the centre of Stod. It can be described by its riverside landscape and its destination in the town centre. The routes address different planning questions: STODSKO has a named starting point and a recommendation for cyclists on its later section; the Dětská trasa is characterised by its route through meadows along the Radbuza and its arrival in the centre.
