The Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens present Chambers of Wonder inspired by art, culture and crystal. Since opening in October 1995, they have been a place for international artists, designers and visionaries. This combines a striking exhibition theme with a longstanding role as a place for creative perspectives.
Museums and history with a range of focuses
The Typewriter Museum in Wattens displays more than 450 fully functional typewriters from the Jörg Thien collection. The collection spans from 1884 to the present day. Check the opening hours and whether admission is free before your visit. The Museum Münze Hall, housed in Hasegg Castle, explores the development of coinage and various minting techniques. Their focuses are quite distinct: one highlights the collection and its timespan, while the other focuses on the history of coinage and minting techniques.
The old town of Hall in Tirol is one of the largest preserved historic complexes. Guided tours of Hall in Tirol run year-round on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m.; afterwards, you can visit the Mining Museum at 11:30 a.m. Check the schedule in advance, as times may change. Part of the exhibition at the Absam Municipal Museum is dedicated to violin maker Jakob Stainer. A violin he made himself is on display as a special exhibit. This brings Stainer’s connection to the museum to life through a specific piece of work.
Mountain trails, views and winter activities
The Zirbenweg trail passes through one of Europe’s largest stands of Swiss stone pines and offers views of the surrounding Karwendel peaks and the Inn Valley. The Glungezer cable cars take visitors up to the mountain station every day; lift operations are seasonal. The Zirbenweg is one of the mountain experiences listed there.
In winter, Glungezer has groomed winter hiking trails and a toboggan run. The Glungezer ski area also has groomed slopes for skiing and snowboarding. In winter, Axamer Lizum offers 9 lift facilities, 40 kilometres of ski runs and an extensive freeride area. If you’re looking for a circular hike instead of winter sports, the “Axamer Lizum” trail is another option: it is about 3.5 kilometres long and particularly suitable for families, active older adults and Nordic walkers.
A short panoramic trail in Schlick 2000 leads from the Kreuzjoch mountain station to the “StubaiBlick” viewing platform and is accessible to families and older adults. Near Mieders, a 7-kilometre illuminated natural toboggan run makes night sledding possible. Snow conditions and operations are seasonal. The trails and activities therefore differ in length, purpose and the time of year for which they are described.
Water, regional experiences and practical information
Lake Natterer See in Natters is a swimming lake with a children’s cove with a sandy beach, a non-swimmer area and green sunbathing lawns. Its water surface covers 3.5 hectares and has space for numerous water attractions. As the lake is open seasonally, check the opening hours in advance.
In the Hall-Wattens region, the Tyrolean Schnaps Route offers a one-and-a-half-hour guided tour of a distillery with a tasting of five fine spirits on Saturdays at 4 p.m. Dates and booking requirements may change, so it’s best to confirm both in advance. The seasonal service in the Wattental Valley also requires careful planning: Schwaninger Taxi operates a shuttle service through the valley from June to September. During the summer holidays, from mid-July to mid-September, it runs daily; at other times, only on weekends. Check the timetable when planning your trip.
