Sellrain can be explored via different routes and destinations: one hike leads to Potsdamer Hut, while another route takes you to the pilgrimage church of St. Quirin. In winter, there is also a dedicated winter trail and a ski tour to choose from. When planning, it is worth considering not only the destination but also the starting point for each route.

Hiking to different destinations

The hike from Sellrain to Potsdamer Hut starts and ends at the municipal office in Sellrain and leads through the Fotschertal Valley to Kaseralm. One option for getting there is the Regiobus Sellraintal, route 420. Check the current timetable before including the bus journey in your tour plans.

The route to the pilgrimage church of St. Quirin goes via Meils and Rifflkreuz, through quiet forests and scenic stretches, and climbs up to the high-altitude trail. The routes also differ in their course: one leads through the Fotschertal Valley to Kaseralm, while the other climbs via Meils and Rifflkreuz to the high-altitude trail. This allows you to consider both the destination and the waypoints mentioned when choosing a route.

Winter trails and ski tours

The Fotschertal Valley is part of the municipality of Sellrain and is a hiking area in summer; in winter, it is known for ski touring. The winter trail from Kaseralm to Potsdamer Hut runs to the right of the Fotscherbach stream, via Seealm, directly to the hut. By contrast, the hike from Sellrain to the hut starts and ends at the municipal office. The two descriptions therefore differ from the outset: the municipal office is the starting point for the hike, and Kaseralm for the winter trail.

Another winter option is the ski tour to Schaflegerkogel. It starts at the EisbrĂĽcke car park in Sellrain and initially follows a forest road through the woods alongside a stream to Furggesalm. Compared with the winter trail, both the starting point and the destination differ: here, it is the EisbrĂĽcke car park and Schaflegerkogel; there, it is Kaseralm and Potsdamer Hut. Check winter trail conditions before setting out.

St. Quirin: church architecture and views

The pilgrimage church of St. Quirin is a Gothic church dating from the 14th century and stands at an altitude of 1,246 metres. Its furnishings include frescoes and figures, and the church offers sweeping views across the Lower Inn Valley. The building’s history, its art and the surrounding landscape each have a distinct character: the church and its furnishings are complemented by views of the surroundings.

Seasonal connections

During the summer months, a hiking taxi connects Sellrain with, among other places, KĂĽhtai, St. Sigmund, Gries, Praxmar and LĂĽsens, as well as key starting points for hikes. The service is seasonal; check in advance whether it runs on your travel dates. If you want to visit one of the places listed or a hiking trailhead, make sure the service operates on your travel dates.
