An easy circular tour, a route designated for mountain biking or e-biking, the StuBay and a parish church with early medieval origins give Telfes in the Stubai Valley a range of distinctive features. When choosing a destination, you can weigh up specific interests such as outdoor activities, sauna and swimming, church history, or the care of birds of prey. You can also factor in the journey to the Telfes toboggan run and the walk to the cave near Gallhof.
Hiking, cycling and getting there
The “Telfer Wiesen” mountain tour is an easy circular route covering 10.3 km and taking 3:06 hours. This gives you a specific timeframe for planning your day. Still, leave some flexibility, as route distances and conditions can change.
The Telfer Wiesen are easy to reach from Innsbruck on the Stubaitalbahn, a scenic public railway. If you plan to use this connection, check the timetable for your travel date, as services and times can change.
The “Telfer Berg” route climbs through Telfes to the Telfer Wiesen. The “565 Telfer Berg” route is designated for mountain biking or e-biking. This means the planning considerations differ: the Telfer Wiesen circular tour is defined by its 10.3 km distance and 3:06-hour duration, while Telfer Berg is designated for cycling.
The Telfes toboggan run is directly accessible from Innsbruck main station on the Stubaitalbahn. Alternatively, public bus route 590 goes to Fulpmes; from there, continue to Telfes on the Stubussl or ski bus. As services may change seasonally, check the timetable before setting off.
Sauna, swimming and nature
StuBay in Telfes is a sauna and swimming complex covering more than 5,000 m². It adds a different focus for leisure to the range of routes: sauna and swimming. If you don’t want to choose a destination based solely on its hiking opportunities, you can also take this into account when deciding.
The “Telfer Wiesen” nature spot has a large sunbathing platform and shade-giving trees that invite you to linger. So, in addition to the tour, there is also a natural setting to consider, with features that make it possible to take a break outdoors.
Church history and local character
Telfes was the seat of the original Stubai parish for more than 1,000 years. The parish church of St. Pankratius in Telfes has early medieval origins. Church painter Anton Zoller from Telfs decorated the church’s entire vault with frescoes. Local history therefore offers several points of interest: the parish’s long-standing role as the original parish seat, the church’s early origins and the decoration of its vault.
Telfes is Tyrol’s first rose village. This designation adds a distinctive element to the village’s character alongside its church heritage.
Birds of prey and a walking destination
For more than 20 years, the Telfes Bird of Prey Park has cared for injured and sick birds of prey. It provides a temporary or permanent home for around 50 European birds of prey. For nature enthusiasts, animal care is therefore another part of what makes Telfes distinctive.
You can reach the cave near Gallhof by walking downhill from the Kirchbrücke in about 20 minutes. The starting point, direction and approximate walking time give you practical guidance if you would like to include this walk in your plans.
