Neustift in the Stubai Valley brings together several different things to consider when planning a trip: seasonal activities on the Stubai Glacier, trails on the Elfer and along the Ruetz, and the Forsterhaus local history museum. When choosing accommodation, it helps to first consider the time of year and your interests. Skiing, hiking and climbing offer different experiences from a visit focused on history; the trails range from short family routes to extensive high-altitude hikes.
Glacier: travel season and summer operations
The Stubai Glacier is open for about ten months of the year. Skiing is possible there from mid-October to May; from July to mid-September, the glacier is a destination for families, hikers and via ferrata enthusiasts. The seasons therefore offer different reasons to visit. As dates may change from one season to the next, check the information for your specific travel dates.
During the full summer operating season in 2026, from July 4 to September 6, visitors could take the lift to the TOP OF TYROL viewing platform at 3,210 m. If you are travelling in a later season, check the operating hours that apply then.
From riverside paths to hiking and climbing
For plans by the water, the riverside path is a separate option: it starts at the Neustift leisure centre or by the Elfer lifts and follows the Ruetz towards Milders or Kampler See. At Elfer and in the Pinnistal, there are short hiking routes for families as well as extensive high-altitude hikes. This range offers different ways to plan the day—from a short family hike to a longer tour at higher elevations.
One route with a specified distance is the natural EinsEinser Trail on the Elfer: it is 4 km long. The Elfer also has several via ferratas and climbing routes, with easily accessible starting points. Hiking and climbing therefore offer different ways to explore the area.
Trail running and bus connections
The Milderer Almentrail is a trail run that passes four alpine pastures and the HĂĽhnerspiel and Kartnall nature sites. An initial section of the trail was part of the 2023 Mountain and Trail Running World Championships in Innsbruck-Stubai. A direct bus runs from Innsbruck Central Station to the Neustift Freizeitzentrum stop for those travelling to the Milderer Almentrail. Bus route 590 also connects Neustift with Innsbruck. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your travel dates.
Forsterhaus: history and crafts
The Forsterhaus in Kampl is documented in official records dating back to 1667. The Forsterhaus local history museum focuses on farming tools, trades associated with itinerant craft work such as shoemaking, tailoring and weaving, and furnishings typical of the valley. The combination of tools, crafts and regionally distinctive furnishings gives the museum visit a clear focus.
The glacier is shaped by the seasons; hiking, climbing, trail running and the Forsterhaus offer different points of interest. If you are planning glacier activities, check the operating hours for the relevant season, and check the timetable for bus journeys. This will help you make choices that suit the plans shaping your stay.
