Völs brings together different sides of the village: historic churches and places of remembrance, a museum in a former manor house, and activities centred on water and nature.

Churches, architectural history and local history

Thurnfels Museum is housed in Völs’s historic municipal building, the former Thurnfels manor, also known as Turm zu Völs. Another landmark is the Blasius Church, dedicated to Saint Blaise. It was first mentioned in 1286 and was already a popular pilgrimage site in the 15th century. The Way of the Cross begins near the village square and leads to the Blasius Church.

The other churches also each have their own historical significance. Fragments of Gothic frescoes depicting the Last Judgment have been preserved in the Old Parish Church. The Emmaus Church was built in 1966/67 to designs by architect Josef Lackner as a new church centre for the municipality of Völs. The Emmaus Church’s furnishings include a large nativity scene in the Oriental style. The local association of nativity scene enthusiasts built it in 1997, working for more than 1,000 hours.

In the Chapel of Saint Nepomuk, an artfully crafted figure of the saint stands in a pointed-arch niche. It is believed to date from the first half of the 19th century. The cross group at the plague cemetery north of the old village centre, near the railway on Kranebitter Straße, offers another form of remembrance. The cross group is dated to the mid-17th century; it commemorates the plague that almost completely depopulated Völs in 1637. The Völs Bacchus is currently the only surviving piece of its kind in Tyrol.

Pond, outdoor pool and activities in the open air

Völs Pond is a 3,700 m² recreational area with a maximum depth of 1.3 metres. It is also a wetland habitat with animal and plant species that merit protection. These include the common toad, common frog, European tree frog and agile frog, as well as eleven species of dragonfly. Here, recreation and nature observation come together in a wetland habitat.

The Völser Badl outdoor swimming pool lies below Blasiusberg on a terraced hillside covering 12,000 m². The pool complex includes a competition-standard sports pool, an adjacent teaching pool and a children’s area with a spacious play stream. The pool café has a viewing terrace with panoramic views.

Thanks to its central location, Völs is described as a starting point for numerous hikes in the surrounding area and the nearby Karwendel Mountains. One cycling option with a stated distance is the moderately challenging Nasses Tal tour (Route 34): it is 11.7 km long and has 289 metres of elevation gain.

A seasonal feature is also part of the sports offering: in winter, part of the artificial turf pitch at the Völs sports ground is artificially iced over.
