Oberhofen im Inntal offers several distinct points of interest for a trip: the Baroque interior of the parish church, listed chapels, the path to Oberhofer Melkalm and seasonal cherry picking. Each of these offers a different focus. Those interested in culture can explore sacred architecture; allow several hours for the route to the alp, while self-picking is limited to June and July. This lets you plan your trip around the experience you want and the time of year it is available.
Parish Church, Chapels and Kulturstadel
The Catholic Parish Church of St Nicholas and the cemetery in Oberhofen im Inntal are protected as historic monuments. Following restorations in 1972/73 and 1979/81, the parish church once again has an almost unaltered Baroque interior. The Baroque interior refers to the overall impression of the space: the focus is on its design as a whole, not just on an individual furnishing. The years refer to periods of restoration, not to the year the church was built. For travellers interested in sacred architecture, this interior is a specific cultural highlight.
The Kohler Chapel is also protected as a historic monument. The same applies to the Plague Chapel, also known as the Chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. The second name refers to the same chapel, not to another building. The restored and adapted former farm building, Kulturstadel, is also available as an event venue on the Rimml site. Its former agricultural function distinguishes it from the sacred landmarks; its use as an event venue adds a different cultural dimension.
Oberhofer Melkalm
Oberhofer Melkalm is just under 1,700 metres above sea level and can be reached from the village of Oberhofen in three hours. This walking time is an estimate and depends on conditions and your pace. For trip planning, the time refers to the route from the village to the alp, not to the duration of a full outing. Allow some extra time and do not treat the three hours as a guaranteed arrival time. The elevation and walking time provide different points of reference: one describes the destination’s location, the other the approximate time needed to get there.
Kirschland Oberhofen: Picking and Products
At Kirschland Oberhofen, you can pick your own cherries every day in June and July, including by prior telephone arrangement. Self-picking is seasonal, so confirm your visit before setting off. This period is clearly limited for planning your visit and differs from the months when other products are available.
The range includes nine different varieties of sweet cherries, plums in July, August and September, genuine bee honey, and premium fruit brandies available all year round. The time periods differ: June and July are suitable for picking cherries, plums have their own season from July to September, while premium fruit brandies are part of the range year-round. However, product availability still depends on seasonal supply. If you are travelling for a particular product, check in advance whether it will be available on your chosen date.
