Rinn lies southeast of Innsbruck at the foot of Patscherkofel. Hiking, winter sports and culture in Judenstein give your stay a range of possible focuses. When planning, it’s worth first considering whether you’re most interested in trails through forests and meadows, cross-country skiing and tobogganing, or the churches and their history.
Hiking around Rinn
The hike from Rinn to Rinner Alm begins just beyond the golf club and climbs steadily through the forest. Trail conditions can vary depending on the time of year. At Rinner Alm, hikers can enjoy regional specialties during the tour. This makes it possible to pair the climb with a stop for refreshments, without assuming a particular walking time. The Speckbacherweg passes the golf course in Rinn; conditions on this route can also vary seasonally.
Cross-country ski trails, lift and toboggan run in winter
The Rinner Alm toboggan run is 4 km long and follows the same route back down to the valley. The ascent begins at the southern edge of Rinn and follows a separate, wide winter hiking trail that is not part of the toboggan run. This clearly distinguishes the ascent from the toboggan route: the winter hiking trail is for the ascent, while the toboggan run follows its own route back down to the valley.
The Panoramaloipe starts opposite the car park for the Archenstadllift Rinn and runs alongside sunny meadows towards Judenstein. It has both a classic track and a skating track. The Golfloipe partly crosses the golf course. For both trails, grooming depends on winter conditions.
The Archenstadllift Rinn is a ski area for children and beginners. Its facilities include a Snow & Fun Park with various obstacles specially designed for children. Operations depend on snow conditions. If you’re planning to go tobogganing, cross-country skiing and visit the ski area, take the conditions for your travel dates into account.
Golf and mountain panoramas
The Innsbruck Golf Club’s 18-hole course is located in Rinn on the sunny slopes of Glungezer. From there, the panorama stretches across the Nordkette, from the Wetterstein Mountains and the Northern Limestone Alps to the mountain range of the Wilder Kaiser. The hiking trails also connect with the golf grounds: the Speckbacherweg passes the golf course, while the hike to Rinner Alm begins just beyond the golf club. These details help you distinguish between the different routes without combining them into a single trail.
Churches and history in Judenstein
The parish church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Rinn is a Rococo church with ceiling paintings by the Giner brothers. In Judenstein stands the pilgrimage church of the Visitation of Mary, built by Dr. Guarinoni in 1670. Older panels in the church document how the Church’s treatment of a chapter in local and ecclesiastical history has developed over time.
Information panels address the so-called ritual murder legend and place its origins and spread in their historical and theological context. A panel unveiled in the entrance area in July 2026 explains this topic. The story that Jewish merchants ritually murdered a child is historically unfounded and is rooted in antisemitic prejudice. The church contains a stone intended to serve as a sign of atonement and forgiveness towards Judaism. The War Memorial Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows at Rinnerberg adds to Rinn’s religious sites.
Events and regional products
Schneeschmelzgaudi is a recurring event in late winter in Tyrol and has become an established fixture in Rinn. In Judenstein, the Christmas market traditionally takes place on the second Sunday of Advent in the square in front of the church. Traders and farmers from Rinn sell agricultural products there; culinary offerings include Kiachln and Zillertaler Krapfen. Check the dates of both events before your trip.
You can plan your stay around the activities that interest you: a forest hike to Rinner Alm, a winter day on a cross-country ski trail or toboggan run, golf on the slopes of Glungezer, or a visit to the churches and their historical context. Seasonal conditions for trails and winter sports, and the dates of events, are separate planning considerations.
