Kłodzko Fortress stands on Zamkowe Wzgórze, west of the Nysa Kłodzka River. In Kłodzko, history takes many forms: in the architecture of the Old Town, in churches and collections, and in underground spaces.

The fortress and underground history

An underground defensive system with about seven kilometres of passageways extends beneath the fortress's main hill. The Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna offers a different perspective: it runs for 600 metres through chambers that evoke bygone times. The fortress's defensive system comprises about seven kilometres of passageways; the Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna is 600 metres long.

The Muzeum Ziemi Kłodzkiej also offers a glimpse into the history beneath the surface. Housed in a Baroque building that once formed part of a Jesuit college, it has extensive regional collections covering the history, archaeology, ethnography, art and natural history of the Kłodzko Region. Visitors can see medieval rooms located more than six metres underground. They show the everyday lives of Kłodzko's former residents. Check the latest details before your visit.

Old Town, town hall and churches

The market square is part of the historic Old Town. The town hall is its most representative and imposing building, but it no longer serves its former commercial functions. A square tower dating from the transition between the Renaissance and Baroque periods is the only surviving part of the former town hall. The historic townhouses around the square were once homes to craftspeople, merchants and nobles. The Gothic bridge also features a striking detail: it is adorned with six votive figures.

The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (WNMP) is the oldest surviving church in Kłodzko. It was first mentioned in 1194; the foundation stone for the present building was laid in 1344. The present Baroque church of Matki Bożej Różańcowej was built between 1628 and 1631. Frescoes by Feliks Antoni Scheffler survive on the ceiling of its refectory. Kościół św. Jerzego i Wojciecha also has a long construction history: founded in the 15th century, the church was rebuilt and extended several times afterwards. In 2015, frescoes by Karol Dankwart were discovered beneath layers of paint; they are being uncovered, conserved and studied by specialists. The status of this work may change.

Ulica Czeska also tells the story of the town's development. It is considered Kłodzko's oldest thoroughfare and was part of the former route between Prague and Wrocław. If you want to explore religious monuments on foot, you can follow the walking route that starts at the foot of the fortress.

Miniatures, routes and a town game

The Minieuroland Miniature Park features miniature monuments and famous buildings from Poland, Europe and around the world. It covers more than 20,000 square metres and includes an arboretum with more than 40 intricately crafted models, as well as plants from Polish, Belgian and Dutch nurseries. As a leisure and recreation destination for families, it offers activities for different age groups. Wide paths allow visitors to stroll with a pushchair and get around in a wheelchair; the facilities take the needs of people with disabilities into account. If these conditions matter for your visit, check the latest information in advance.

The town game “W grę miejską gram, Kłodzko dobrze znam” invites you to discover interesting places in Kłodzko. Maps and guidebooks for the game are available free of charge from the tourist information centre; check before travelling whether the materials are currently available. To connect with a longer route, there is a 0.7-kilometre section from Kłodzko Miasto railway station via Moniuszki, Chełmońskiego and Kolejowa streets to the Dookoła Gminy Kłodzko circular trail.

Fort Owcza Góra is a historic structure of particular historical and architectural significance. Check access for visitors separately. Kłodzko offers a variety of experiences: the Old Town and churches bring architectural history to life, the museum combines collections with depictions of earlier ways of life, and Minieuroland focuses on models from different regions. These highlights can help you choose a hotel in Kłodzki based on the kind of stay that interests you.
