Valley and travel character

Nowa Morawa lies in a narrow, deep valley along the upper course of the Morawka. The valley gives the village a distinct landscape setting. In and near Nowa Morawa, there are also destinations that differ considerably: a cross-country ski route that starts and ends in the village, a drag lift on Stromy, and two cultural sites with different themes. This offers several focal points for planning a trip. The route is a circuit in its own right, while the cultural destinations are separate sites in the surrounding area.

Cultural traces with different themes

Two destinations with different historical and artistic themes lie in the vicinity of Nowa Morawa. Szwedzkie Szańce are slight remains of earthworks attributed to Swedish troops from the time of the Thirty Years’ War. They lie on a ridge west of Nowa Morawa, south of Przełęcz Staromorawska and above Droga Staromorawska. Góra Oliwna is a group of 19th-century stone sculptures depicting sleeping apostles. It is located on a hill between Nowa Morawa and Kamienica. Thus, remains of earthworks with a historical attribution stand in contrast to a stone group of figures: the two sites differ both in theme and location. If you include culture in your travel plans, you can use this distinction as a guide rather than treating both destinations as the same experience.

Cross-country ski route and shorter section

The 22-kilometre cross-country ski route No. 10 starts in Nowa Morawa, runs via Droga Marianny, Przełęcz Sucha, Wielkie Rozdroże and the summit of Czernica, and then returns to Nowa Morawa. It is considered difficult and has steep climbs and descents. Snow conditions are seasonal, so take them into account when choosing your dates.

A 3.9-kilometre section of the same route runs from Nowa Morawa via Droga Marianny to Przełęcz Sucha. It is rated with two difficulty markers on the ascent and three on the descent. Compared directly with the 22-kilometre circuit, the section is considerably shorter; the separate ratings also show that the ascent and descent are not combined into a single rating.

Drag lift and rest area

Nowa Morawa has a drag lift on the eastern slope of Stromy (808 m), the higher of the two peaks of Zawada. Its seasonal operation may vary. If you plan to use it, check its current operating status and accessibility before your trip.

A forest rest area is located at the end of Nowa Morawa, on the road towards the border crossing at Przełęcz Płoszczyna. It includes a covered shelter and a barbecue area. If you would like to include the site in your plans, check its condition before your visit.
