The approximately five-kilometre Gänsemarsch trail runs from the town hall through the landscape park and back to the market square, forming a walking route through Gänserndorf. In this way, the route connects places in town with a renaturalised landscape. Gänserndorf is located in the fertile Marchfeld region and is also considered an ideal starting point for excursions to the Danube-Auen wetlands.

Landscape and Trails

The landscape park is an 83,000 m² renaturalised area at the confluence of the Sulzgraben and the Weidenbach; it was established in 2006. An observation tower offers views across the surrounding natural landscape. Gänserndorf geese and numerous other waterbirds live in one of the two ponds.

The adventure trail in the Fuchsenwald forest offers another walking route. The 3.7 km circular trail features information boards, puzzles, questions and activity stations. There are two starting points to choose from: the animal trail begins at the corner of Siebenbrunnerstraße and Fuchsenwaldstraße, while the plant trail starts on Föhrenweg, around house number 50.

Exercise and Activities

The pump track has 155 metres of riding surface and was designed for fans of cycling, scooters, roller skating and skateboarding. The facility is free to use every day from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; it is illuminated in the evenings. This provides specific information about access and opening hours, while the track itself is designed for a range of wheeled sports.

The Gänserndorf Adventure Park offers nature and action across 15 hectares of woodland and meadows. Activities include a forest climbing park and a high ropes course for children aged six and up. The Big Adventure lets visitors try archery at 3D animal targets. Climbing and archery offer different experiences within the adventure park: one focuses on the course, the other on aiming at animal targets.

Town History and Special Places

The town parish church of the Holy Guardian Angels combines a structure that is essentially late Romanesque with a Gothic choir. A plague column featuring a Baroque Pietà has stood in front of the church since 1964. This distinguishes the architectural features of the church building from the separate depiction on the column.

The Piefke Monument also makes its own distinctive impression. A description dated 8 October 2020 calls it a 2.9-metre-high sound installation made of Corten steel by Christoph Theiler. The monument was unveiled on 9 September 2009 in front of the Gänserndorf town library.

The inhalatorium offers another way to experience nature: the wooden pavilion is designed so that brine drips over brushwood, enriching the air with salt.

Practical Information

Three lockable bicycle boxes are available to rent at the bus station on Hans-Kudlich-Gasse for secure, weather-protected bicycle storage. This is a useful addition for anyone wishing to explore Gänserndorf by bike.
