Gänserndorf offers several distinct highlights for a stay: local history, nature watching, and leisure activities for exercise and play. Experiences include the Pietà Column in the church square, the landscape park, the circular trail in Fuchsenwald and the pump track.

Column history spanning two periods

The Pietà Column in the church square is Gänserndorf’s oldest column and dates from 1699. The “City of Columns” concept was first mentioned in 2000 at an exhibition by artist Manfred Hermann Bauch. The two dates relate to different things: 1699 is the date of the Pietà Column, while 2000 marks the first mention of the concept. For anyone interested in the town’s column history, this offers a specific historical reference as well as a later conceptual milestone.

Landscape park and nature watching

The landscape park is a renaturalised area covering a total of 83,000 m². In one of its two ponds, numerous other waterbirds live alongside the Gänserndorf geese. The park also has an observation tower with views across the natural surroundings. The pond and tower offer different perspectives on nature: one focuses on the waterbirds, while the other opens up views across the landscape. This means the park can be explored not only through its size but also through specific subjects for observation.

Comparing the circular trail and pump track

The adventure trail in Fuchsenwald is a 3.7 km circular route. Along the way, there are information boards, puzzles and questions; the puzzle boards depict animals and plants of the forest. The trail combines exercise with nature-related topics, without requiring a particular walking time or level of difficulty. The pump track offers something different: its 155-metre track was designed for bicycles, scooters, skates and skateboards. While the circular trail features nature facts and questions, the pump track focuses on riding different types of equipment. It can be used free of charge every day from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Opening hours may change; check the details before your visit.

More leisure activities

The high ropes course at the Gänserndorf Adventure Park is suitable for children aged 6 and over. Children up to the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The facilities also include 8 zip lines with a total length of 800 m. As age requirements and course configurations may change, check the latest information before your visit. The KidsZone offers another option for indoor fun whatever the weather, with a ball pit, climbing frame and creative play stations.

At the inhalatorium, brine water drips over brushwood, adding salt to the air. It is located behind the town hall at Scheunengasse 25 and is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from 1 April to 31 October; opening hours may vary depending on the weather. If you plan your stay around this activity, take the seasonal opening period and possible weather-related changes into account.

Historical change and planning your stay

Gänserndorf’s development from a farming village into a town also has a historical connection to transport: the construction of a station on the Kaiser Franz Joseph Northern Railway near the village helped bring about this change. This gives you a specific starting point for planning your visit.
