A night watchman by torchlight, hikes to Limes sites and wine tastings in Fellbach offer very different ways to explore the Rems-Murr District. You can encounter history on guided tours and along trails through the region; there is also architecture, cycling routes and activities centred on wine. To start planning, ask yourself a simple question: would you like a route with stages, a historical tour or a visit focused on wine?

Hiking the Limes and comparing routes

The seasonal Limesbus Nord, route 372, runs from May until the penultimate Sunday in October on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, travelling from Murrhardt via Grab and Großerlach to Mainhardt and back. The bus makes it possible to hike between sites on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Limes or take tours with the Limes Cicerones. Since the route operates seasonally, check the current operating days before your trip.

The 50-kilometre Rems-Murr hiking trail can be walked in three stages, from Endersbach via Winnenden to Murrhardt. The entire trail is well served by local public transport, so you do not need a car to get there. Route navigation can also be downloaded to a smartphone. The Idyllische Straße offers a different kind of route: near Großerlach, it includes a circular tour from Grab via Rottal to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Limes.

At the Murrhardt Nature Park Centre, you can find information about guided tours, events, markets and projects run by the Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald e. V. Quality Nature Park. Topics range from specific tours to events and markets. The centre can help you get your bearings if you want to consider different options for your stay.

Experience urban history on a guided tour

In Murrhardt, a night watchman tells stories and legends by torchlight. The activity is also suitable for children, who can bring lanterns. Historical tours in Backnang follow in the footsteps of the Margraves to St. Pancratius Collegiate Church, where the Margraves of Baden are buried. In Schorndorf, you can learn about the town's history on guided tours.

You can also explore Fellbach on a city walk: the route leads through the town centre to historic landmarks and award-winning architecture. Check locally in advance whether the tours and guided walks mentioned are available.

Fellbach: architecture and wine

At the Neue Kelter, the Fellbach winegrowers offer wine tastings, cellar tours and snacks. The annual Weintreff, by contrast, takes place at the Alte Kelter: at this stylish tasting, numerous wine producers and other local food and drink artisans from the Remstal-Stuttgart region present their products. The offerings therefore differ both in location and format: one focuses on visits to the Fellbach winegrowers, while the other brings together many producers and food and drink artisans. Ask in advance about the availability of visitor activities and the dates of the Weintreff.

Cycling and landscapes in the wider area

The Remstal cycle path starts at Endersbach station in Weinstadt and runs via Kernen and Fellbach towards Remseck am Neckar. It is around 106 kilometres long. By comparison, the Rems-Murr hiking trail is 50 kilometres long and can be walked in three stages. The two routes can therefore be distinguished by activity and stated length.

In the wider region, you can explore the Remstal's rolling vineyards, extensive orchard meadows and historic half-timbered towns. The FeenSpuren trails lead through the Schwäbischer Wald and the Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald Nature Park, offering nature and landscape experiences and information about the natural surroundings along the way. Also in the Schwäbischer Wald, the Mühlenwanderweg passes 13 mills.
