Weinstadt brings together orchards, local history and wine with a cycling route that starts in Endersbach and continues far beyond the town. It is located in the Rems-Murr district of Baden-Württemberg, about 15 kilometres east of Stuttgart, and is part of the Stuttgart Region. The orchard trail in Schnait, historical traces in Baach and the Remstal Cycle Path offer different perspectives on the surrounding area when choosing where to stay.

Orchards and historical traces

Several information boards explain the orchards along the orchard trail in Weinstadt-Schnait. The trail starts at the car park of the Schnait community hall. Its theme connects the landscape with its various functions: the orchards serve as both a place for recreation and a habitat and refuge for animals and plants. The trail is therefore about more than finding your way from the starting point; it also highlights the importance of these areas for people, animals and plants.

Baach is a small hamlet in Weinstadt whose history was shaped by two mills. The place is first mentioned in writing in the 14th century. Surviving structures include an arch bridge, probably dating from the 18th century, and several Baroque half-timbered houses. The dates refer to different things: the 14th century marks the first written mention, while the bridge is probably several centuries younger.

Wine and the Remstalkellerei winery

The Remstalkellerei winery also offers a distinctive experience. Wine matures there in Baden-Württemberg’s largest wooden-barrel cellar. During a guided tour at a museum night at the Remstalkellerei in Weinstadt, wine was tasted alongside large oak barrels. This specific event experience combines the tasting with a view of the large barrels and describes a tour held as part of the museum night.

Cycling routes with different profiles

The Remstal Cycle Path starts right at Endersbach station in Weinstadt. From there, the route passes through wine country via Kernen and Fellbach to Remseck am Neckar; it then follows the Rems River to Aalen. The path is around 106 kilometres long. It received a four-star rating as an ADFC quality cycle route and was later designated a state long-distance cycle route. This route therefore extends well beyond a day trip within Weinstadt.

A described circular tour from Weinstadt to Korb and back is 10.1 kilometres long. It initially follows a cycle path along the Rems and then heads towards Korb along a former railway line. Compared with the approximately 106-kilometre Remstal Cycle Path, this is a much shorter cycling option; the two routes differ both in length and in their course.

Hiking in the Rems-Murr district

In the wider destination of the Rems-Murr district, the Rems-Murr hiking trail offers another perspective. The route is 50 kilometres long and can be hiked in three stages from Endersbach via Winnenden to Murrhardt. At 215 kilometres, the Remstal Trail is much longer and passes through varied landscapes, to viewpoints and through historic towns in the valley. Hikers can thus choose between a route clearly divided into three stages and a much longer trail that takes in landscapes and towns.
