Urbach combines a distinctive landscape feature with several trails that differ clearly in length and theme. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Urbach, you can plan your trip around nature, local history or outdoor activities. The Urbach landslide occurred in 2001 and has become a landmark of the community. A trail through orchards leads around the landslide area.
Hiking Trails with Different Highlights
The Landslide Circular Trail is around three kilometres long. Seven information boards provide details about the history, geology, flora and fauna of the landslide area. The Forest Adventure Trail is 2.2 kilometres long and features numerous interactive stations and trail elements where you can experience nature through movement and using all your senses. It is a suitable outing for families, schools and kindergartens. The Hauwiese forest playground and barbecue area lies between the two trails and offers a place to relax, play and take a break; it can complement the Forest Adventure Trail with a full-day programme.
If you prefer to stroll through town, there is a walk of just under four kilometres that passes through almost all of Urbach. Another option is the Linsenberg fruit-growing educational trail: it runs along the Linsenberg and provides information about fruit growing, woody plants, ecology and the landscape. The trail offers views south across the Rems Valley and to the opposite hills of the Schurwald. The different trail lengths and themes can help you choose what to focus on during your stay.
Cycling
The Flowtrail is part of a circular route of around 14 kilometres in Urbach and consists of two sections. Use is free of charge. A suitable mountain bike, a helmet and adequate bike-handling skills are required. To prevent damage, do not ride the trail in wet weather. Check the conditions before setting off.
Local History at the Media Library and Museum
The second floor of the Urbach Media Library houses a permanent exhibition on Urbach’s history, from the Ice Age through the Middle Ages to the present day. The exhibition has regular visiting hours and admission is free. Check the current visiting arrangements before your visit.
The Museum at Widumhof is housed in one of Urbach’s oldest half-timbered houses. It includes museum rooms on the upper floors, an exhibition room on the ground floor featuring changing themes, and the renovated museum cellar in the vaulted basement. The themes on the ground floor change, while the exhibition in the media library covers the town’s history over a long period.
