Konstanz can be viewed from several different angles when planning a trip: a visit to Mainau Island and its Butterfly House, the 53-kilometer SeeGang trail between Überlingen and Konstanz, and RadgenussRouten in the district of Konstanz. There is also practical information about bus connections to Mainau and the BODENSEECARD WEST. First decide which activity you want to shape your stay; then you can check which transport and accommodation arrangements are relevant to that choice.

Mainau: Butterfly House and bus travel

The Butterfly House on Mainau Island is home to up to 120 different butterfly species and subspecies from the tropical regions of South and Central America, Africa and Asia. Details of the collection may change. If you specifically want to visit the Butterfly House, check the operator’s latest visitor information beforehand.

Ring bus routes 4/13 and 13/4, between Konstanz Station and the districts of Litzelstetten, Wallhausen, Dingelsdorf and Dettingen, stop near the entrance to Mainau Island. The stop near the entrance provides a specific reference point for your journey; check the current timetable before setting off.

SeeGang and RadgenussRouten: two types of activity

The well-signposted premium hiking trail SeeGang is 53 kilometers long, connects Überlingen and Konstanz, and passes through the Bodenseekreis and the district of Konstanz. Its two named endpoints and route through two districts make it a different choice from a single visit to Mainau: here, the focus is on a trail rather than one place. If hiking is your priority, you can include the SeeGang as a route option in your travel plans.

The RadgenussRouten on the western side of Lake Constance pass through the most beautiful landscapes in the district of Konstanz and combine nature, culture and regional highlights. Unlike the SeeGang, these are cycling routes that bring together landscapes, culture and regional themes. This lets you consider hiking and cycling as distinct priorities for your trip and organize your plans around your preferred activity.

The BODENSEECARD WEST when choosing accommodation

The BODENSEECARD WEST may be relevant when planning your accommodation. Guests staying overnight in 14 participating towns receive it at check-in. It serves as a free travel pass in the district of Konstanz as far as Stein am Rhein and Überlingen, offers a 20 percent discount on Untersee boat trips, and provides reduced admission to museums. Before booking, it is best to check whether your chosen accommodation is in one of the participating towns; the participation terms may change.

The first question helps you plan your trip around your preferred activity; the second concerns the card and the benefits listed.
