When choosing accommodation in Singen (Hohentwiel), it is worth first asking which themes you want to shape your stay: early settlement, art and cars, the fortress ruins or hikes on the Hohentwiel. The attractions offer different points of interest. This lets you choose a hotel based on your travel interests instead of trying to fit every destination into a fixed daily schedule.
Museums and fortress ruins: Culture in Singen
The Archaeological Hegau Museum presents the way of life of the people who settled in the Hegau from the end of the last Ice Age to the early Middle Ages. Its timeline therefore spans the late Ice Age through to an early period of the Middle Ages. For travellers particularly interested in the early settlement of the Hegau, the museum is a cultural attraction in its own right.
The MAC Museum Art & Cars offers a different focus: it brings together classic cars, sports cars and contemporary art. Visitors can experience exhibitions, light art, photography and temporary exhibitions in modern architecture. While the Archaeological Hegau Museum focuses on the way of life of the Hegau’s earlier inhabitants, the MAC Museum Art & Cars centres on vehicles and contemporary art.
The Hohentwiel fortress ruins are a popular destination for history enthusiasts and families. They complement the museums with another historical attraction. If you plan your stay around cultural interests, you can choose between the early settlement explored at the Archaeological Hegau Museum, the themes of the MAC Museum Art & Cars, and the fortress ruins.
Hiking and nature on the Hohentwiel
The “Hohentwieler” premium hiking trail is a 7.5-kilometre circular route across the heights of the Hohentwiel and around the “Staufen”. Its specific length and circular-route format give the trail a clearly defined profile. Guided tours in and around Singen also include hikes on the Hohentwiel. This gives you a choice of different ways to make hiking the focus of your visit: a named circular route or guided hikes. Check the current route before setting out.
The Hohentwiel is also a 108-hectare protected habitat for rare animal and plant species. The two figures associated with hiking and nature describe different things: 7.5 kilometres is the length of the circular route, while 108 hectares is the size of the protected habitat. So, alongside the hiking options, there is also a protected-area aspect for visitors interested in nature.
To the information centre by Hohentwiel taxi
The Hohentwiel taxi (line 8) connects Singen station to the Hohentwiel Information Centre via the Rathaus/Stadthalle and Landesgartenschau stops, and returns on the same route. It runs only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, every 60 minutes from 8:05 a.m. to 7:05 p.m. If you plan to use this connection to visit the information centre, the operating days and frequency are important points to consider. Check the timetable before travelling, as details may change.
