Allensbach brings together two very different perspectives through its museums: the literary and cinematic legacy of Fritz MĂĽhlenweg, and archaeological finds from the pile-dwelling era. There is also an outdoor classroom at the wildlife and leisure park, as well as bus and train connections to Konstanz and Radolfzell. Those considering Allensbach as a place to stay can include culture, nature and regional transport in their travel plans.
Fritz MĂĽhlenweg: Literature and Memories
The MÜHLENWEG Museum presents a permanent literary exhibition about the painter and award-winning author Fritz Mühlenweg (1898–1961). Photographs, paintings, exhibits, expedition films and listening stations are all part of the exhibition, along with unique items on loan from the family and from the estate.
A documentary featuring contemporary witnesses adds to the exhibition; personal stories and memories from the Mühlenweg family’s circle are available on tablets that visitors can borrow. There are also stories and poems, a quiz and a virtual tour of favorite items.
Archaeology and Pile-Dwelling History
The Allensbach Archaeology and Local History Museum traces the town’s history from the Neolithic period to the present day. It offers insights into the “Allensbach-Strandbad” pile-dwelling settlement and the lives of its Neolithic inhabitants. Alongside many original finds, the museum displays a replica of the famous Allensbach dagger, dating to around 2900 BC. It is made of northern Italian flint and has a preserved wooden handle. Two different Allensbach sandals made of lime bast are also on display. The “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps” have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2011.
Nature and Regional Cuisine
The Allensbach Wildlife and Leisure Park has an outdoor classroom covering more than 1,000 m². It features over 600 plants, a wild bee hotel, a rose garden and a large herb spiral.
In the area around Allensbach, the idyllic stretch of Lake Constance between Reichenau Island and Allensbach is a habitat for great crested grebes and grey herons.
Dining at the wildlife park includes self-service snacks in the wildlife park hall and barbecue areas. The Mindelsee country inn serves traditional regional cuisine. Check the latest information about these additional dining options before your visit.
At a group cooking event, seasonal and regional dishes from the Lake Constance region are prepared using local produce and then enjoyed together with a glass of Allensbach wine. The meeting point is the school kitchen at Allensbach Primary School, Schulstr. 12. If you would like to include this activity in your plans, check the dates and participation details in advance.
