Volkertshausen offers two distinct starting points for planning a trip: church architecture and art on the one hand, and cycling on the other. The Old Church was built in 1839, while St. Verena was built between 1971 and 1974; a cycling tour also passes through the town. This gives you a local perspective ranging from a historical timeline to a specific stop along a route.

Church Architecture and Art

The Old Church in Volkertshausen was built as a place of worship by the Catholic Church in 1839. The new church, St. Verena, was built later, between 1971 and 1974. The dates place the two churches in different periods of construction and provide a clear timeline for the town’s history. If you are interested in church architecture, you can consider these two historical periods separately.

St. Verena is home to a Stations of the Cross made of glazed clay, featuring high and low relief. The works are by Polish artist Jacek Suidiczinsky and were presented to the church in 1994. High and low relief describe a sculptural technique in which parts of a design project outwards or are recessed. The Stations of the Cross add a specific artistic dimension to the building’s history; the 1994 presentation date stands alongside the construction years 1971 to 1974 as a date in its own right.

The Old Church’s former use is also part of the town’s cultural history: in 1993, after an arts association was founded, the former church in Volkertshausen was temporarily prepared for its first concerts and exhibitions. Events organized by local associations are held regularly at the Old Church Culture and Community Centre. If a particular event is important to your trip, check its date in advance.

Playground and Cycling Tour

The playground by the Old Church is located directly behind its parking area and can be reached via the FriedenstraĂźe entrance. Its precise location and access provide practical guidance for anyone wishing to include this spot in their plans.

Volkertshausen lies along the Radolfzeller Aach. Separately, the Engen–Eigeltingen–Langenstein–Volkertshausen–Engen cycling tour passes through the town. These two details answer different questions: the first describes the town’s location, while the second names Volkertshausen as part of the route sequence. Check the route conditions before setting off.
