Podhradí U Luhačovic lies in the immediate vicinity of the spa town of Luhačovice. Forests, springs, marked trails and the medieval castle complex of Starý Světlov give your stay a range of possible focuses. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether you mainly want to plan longer hikes, historic sites or natural attractions. You can combine the options below according to your interests and the time available, without having to follow a fixed itinerary.

Forest, valley and marked trails

Podhradí lies in the valley of the Pozlovický potok and is surrounded by forests on three sides. Several marked hiking trails can be found in the village and its surroundings. One particularly clear reference point is the blue-marked hiking trail that passes through Podhradí and is about 30 kilometres long. It leads from Luhačovice via Pozlovice, Starý Světlov, Spletený vrch, Kláštov, Svéradov and Mount Kopce to the Čertovy skály. Its length makes it an option for anyone who wants to include a longer hike in their plans.

The access road is also useful to bear in mind: the road to Podhradí does not continue beyond the village. If you are combining several destinations for an outing, take this road layout into account when planning. This way, you can arrange the hiking trails and other destinations to suit your stay, rather than assuming you can drive through Podhradí.

Springs and natural attractions

The Sirčena sulphur spring rises at the upper end of Podhradí. Its protected surroundings include a designated rest area. Another spring, Sojsinka, lies on the nature trail below Starý Světlov. The two locations offer different starting points for exploring the area: Sirčena is defined by its location at the upper end of the village, while Sojsinka is situated on the nature trail below the castle.

On the edge of the village, a small water reservoir offers the opportunity to swim in nature during hot summer months. This is a seasonal destination that is particularly suitable for your plans if you are in Podhradí during the warmer months. Another special feature is the rare wild service tree (Jeřab oskeruše) growing near Turecký kříž; it is estimated to be more than 300 years old.

Ruins of Starý Světlov Castle

The extensive ruins of the medieval Starý Světlov Castle lie northwest of Podhradí. The castle was built in the 14th century, and its remains have been preserved in the landscape. Simple steps have been installed in places where access is difficult. They are intended to prevent visitors from damaging the site. An information system at Starý Světlov describes the castle’s construction history and complements the view of its surviving remains.

Commentated castle tours and talks on the history and significance of the site take place at Starý Světlov every year. Podhradí organises them in cooperation with the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) and the Museum of the Luhačovice Zálesí. If you want to plan your stay around a tour or talk, check the event dates in advance. That way, you can decide whether you would like this kind of interpretation to be the focus of your visit.

Architectural heritage and a summer tradition

The village itself is also home to striking examples of architectural and commemorative heritage. The wooden bell tower in Podhradí is part of the distinctive folk architecture of the Luhačovské Zálesí. A wooden log chapel is typologically reminiscent of Jurkovič’s buildings at Pustevny. Turecký kříž is a stone cross dating from 1663 and a memorial to the Turkish wars. Together with the nearby wild service tree (Jeřab oskeruše), estimated to be more than 300 years old, it provides another historical point of interest.

The Anenská pouť takes place in Podhradí in summer; locals call it Podhradská pouť. The festival features an extensive cultural programme and fairground rides; individual programme items may vary. If you want to plan your travel dates around the festival, check the dates and the programme in advance.

Another way to tour the area

If you are also considering a mountain bike route, “Na Komonec nad Luhačovicemi” is a named option. The route can be ridden by mountain bike and combines a nature trail, marked hiking trails and forest paths. Alongside the blue-marked hiking route of around 30 kilometres, this gives you other types of trails to consider when planning. You can choose which activities to include in your stay based on your interests and the time available.
