At the foot of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, Dolní Lhota lies in the Horní Olšava Valley, also known as Šťávnice. The village also has the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, an annual pilgrimage and sports facilities. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your travel dates around what interests you most: the landscape, local history, a festival or sports.
Valley, Forest and Protected Landscape
On the southern edge of Dolní Lhota’s cadastral area are wooded areas with the 521-metre-high hill of Kameničná. Together with its location at the foot of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, this creates different landscape features: the valley where the village lies and a wooded high point in the south of the cadastral area. The river name Horní Olšava, also known as Šťávnice, is another point of reference for finding your way around the landscape. If you choose a destination based on its geographical character, you will find specific points of reference here for the valley, forest and protected area.
Getting There and Railway Stations
The busy Luhačovice–Zlín road runs through Dolní Lhota; another road branches off from it in the village towards Valašské Klobouky. Two railway stations are listed as the closest options for travelling by train: Luhačovice is 7 kilometres away on the Luhačovice–Uherský Brod line, and Zádveřice is 10 kilometres away on the Otrokovice–Zlín–Vizovice line. Luhačovice is therefore the nearer of the two stations; they are also on different lines. Check connections and departure times for your travel dates before your trip.
Church and Local History
The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was built between 2007 and 2014 and consecrated in 2014. Dolní Lhota first appears in written sources in 1449. The church’s more recent construction history and the village’s early written mention are thus two distinct historical points of reference. For travellers interested in culture, local history can be understood through both a specific building and the earlier written reference.
Pilgrimage and Carnival Parade
The Dolní Lhota pilgrimage is celebrated every year on the third Sunday in July, after the pilgrimages in Újezd and Slopné. If you would like to plan your stay around this occasion, check the local date for the relevant year. Another cultural event is the carnival parade: it is organised by firefighters and accompanied by a small brass band. Check the local announcement before your trip if you would like to combine your stay with this seasonal event.
Check Sports Facilities
The tennis court has a reservation system that lets you check whether it has already been booked. Availability depends on the time, so check before visiting. The multipurpose hall, which opened on 1 October 2009, is intended not only for the primary school but also for the general public. Its facilities allow for tennis, volleyball, basketball, floorball, indoor football, aerobics and other sports activities. Check the hall’s current availability before visiting. The recurring pilgrimage date and the sports facilities, whose availability should be checked, can therefore serve as different points of reference when choosing your travel dates.
