Poteč can be viewed as a destination for landscape and culture: Ploštiny represents a specific summit, Dělanovec a small pilgrimage site, and the Potečské hody a recurring festival date. Local history ranges from agriculture and fruit processing to the home production of shingles and soles. Landscape, sacred heritage and former occupations thus stand side by side; depending on your interests, you can focus on one of these themes.

Landscape and summit

Half of the municipality of Poteč lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. At 739 m, Ploštiny is the highest peak of the White Carpathians in Poteč. Ploštiny is an area of particular landscape value, with beautiful views, especially of Slovakia. The municipality’s connection to the protected landscape area and Ploštiny as a specific summit with views thus stand side by side.

Dělanovec and religious heritage

Dělanovec is a small pilgrimage site in the hills above Poteč. The Chapel of Panny Marie Královny and a spring are located at Dělanovec. While Ploštiny is characterized above all by its summit elevation and views, Dělanovec focuses on the pilgrimage site, chapel and spring.

The local history of art also includes paintings by the artist Bohumír Lindauer, which hang in a chapel in Poteč.

Festival date and local history

The Potečské hody are held regularly on September 28 and begin with a festive Mass at the local chapel. The recurring festival date provides a clear anchor for planning when to visit; agriculture and home production, by contrast, are part of the historical picture of the village.

Agriculture and farming were among the main livelihoods in Poteč in the past. Fruit growing was also widespread: apples and plums were dried, and later people began distilling spirits. Local history thus traces a path from working in the fields to processing the harvest.

The home production of shingles and soles from fulled fabric was also among the occupations of the past. The soles were intended for makers of valašské slippers. Together with agriculture and fruit growing, this craft shows that local history can be told not only through landscape but also through livelihoods and local production. Fulled fabric is a textile compacted by fulling.

Sports and practical planning

The multi-purpose sports field adds a practical sports option to the landscape and historical themes. The operating rules published in 2017 specify daily public opening hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Use for tennis, small-sided football, handball, nohejbal, volleyball and basketball requires a reservation; ice hockey is possible only when there is sufficient ice. If you plan to use the field, check the current reservation conditions before your visit.
