The 244-meter-long arcade gallery leading into the Italian-style formal garden of Květná makes a striking entrance in Kroměříž: The Archbishop’s Palace and its gardens are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Zlin Region. The estate includes the 58-hectare castle garden with exotic trees and historic architectural features, as well as Květná, which covers 14.5 hectares. Comparing their sizes reveals two different scales of historic garden design; the long gallery also gives Květná its own distinctive architectural character.

Garden Art, Baťa History and Museums

Different chapters of cultural history also come together in Zlín. The Baťa skyscraper, known as Building 21, offers views of the surrounding area. The Shoe Museum houses Central Europe’s largest shoe collection. The Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín features a Baťa exhibition; the Slovácké Museum in Uherské Hradiště is dedicated to the traditions and customs of Slovácko. In this way, the Baťa-shaped perspective on Zlín and the regional heritage of Slovácko stand side by side as distinct cultural themes.

Another cultural highlight is the UNESCO-listed custom “Ride of the Kings,” which takes place regularly in Vlčnov, Kunovice and Hluk. Specific event dates vary; if you would like to experience the custom, check the dates for your travel period. Pilgrimage routes lead to destinations such as Velehrad and Svatý Hostýn, adding another cultural perspective to the museums and traditional sites.

From the White Carpathians to the Baťa Canal

The White Carpathians Biosphere Reserve is a cultural landscape in the lower mountains. It includes 4,000 hectares of species-rich orchid meadows, deciduous forests, orchards and individual fruit trees. Orchids and other rare plants grow in the meadows; old and local fruit varieties are preserved in the orchards. The landscape thus combines rich plant life with fruit growing and other visible traces of its cultural heritage.

The Beskids, Hostýnské vrchy and Vizovické vrchy also offer landscapes for hiking and cycling. As of May 19, 2026, the marked hiking trail network in the Zlínský kraj covered around 2,500 kilometers; the trails are connected to cycling, cross-country skiing and pilgrimage routes. If you prefer a trip on the water to a route through the landscape, boat tours are available on the Baťa Canal. The main cycling route runs alongside the canal.

Regional Cuisine and Different Travel Interests

Regional specialties include frgály and kyselica, as well as Vizovice plum brandy and the wine-growing areas of Slovácko with their wine cellars. Vizovice is associated with plum brandy; in southern Wallachia, dried plums and plum butter are also traditional. Frgály are available with fillings such as pear butter or quark. Baking classes offer a hands-on way to get to know the region’s baking traditions. The wine culture of Slovácko and wines from the historic Archbishop’s cellars in Kroměříž are also part of the region’s culinary profile.

Luhačovice offers a different focus: The town is Moravia’s largest spa town and has several healing mineral springs. Its spa architecture is another regional highlight. In Zlin, garden art and museums, hiking and cycling landscapes, culinary traditions and spa architecture appeal to different interests, without requiring a set order for your visit.

Getting There and Choosing a Focus for Your Trip
