Ořechov lies in the southeastern foothills of the Chřiby and in the valley of the Ořechovský potok stream. Extensive vineyards can still be found on the southeastern slopes. The landscape thus connects the stream valley with slopes shaped by wine growing. The town’s features also include its castle history, chapels and recurring cultural events. When planning a stay, you can decide whether you are most interested in the landscape, architectural heritage, folklore or cycling routes.

Landscape Between the Valley and Vineyards

The valley setting and the vineyards on the southeastern slopes are two distinct aspects of Ořechov’s landscape. The town lies in the foothills of the Chřiby; the vineyards are on the southeastern slopes. This gives a more precise picture of the landscape than a general reference to a rural setting. Wine growing is a visible part of the town’s description, but it is not the only subject that may be relevant when planning a trip: the history of the buildings and local customs also offer their own points of interest.

The Castle, Chapels and Places of Remembrance

Ořechov Castle was built on the site of an earlier fortress. A Baroque chapel was added to the castle. It was used until 1783 and, following restoration after 1941, was put back into use; it is still in use today.

In the park in front of the castle stands the heritage-listed Chapel of St. Wenceslas (Kaple sv. Václava), with its bell tower. The chapel houses a statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1747. The building was modified in 1849 and reconstructed in 2011–2012. These details tell different parts of its architectural history: the statue points to the 18th century, while the modification and reconstruction describe later interventions.

Another place of remembrance is the Chapel of the Guardian Angels (Kaplička Andělů strážných) on the road to Syrovín. It was built in 1873 as a memorial to the soldiers from Ořechov who returned from the war. Together with the castle and chapels, it shows how closely local places of remembrance are linked to specific buildings and their history.

Festivals and Local Folklore

Slovácké hody s právem is held every year on the feast of St. Wenceslas. Many young people and children in traditional costume take part in the tradition. The Easter market and Košt ořechovky are held regularly. Ořechov’s calendar therefore includes both a festival with an explicitly stated annual date and other recurring events. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these occasions, check the specific event dates in advance.

The Ořechov Folklore Association (Folklórní sdružení Ořechov) is also part of this cultural context. The association works to preserve and develop the folk traditions, customs and traditional dress of the Slovácko region. Its aims include organising public cultural events. These goals complement the events described as regularly taking place in Ořechov, without being equated with any particular festival.

Cycling Routes and Trip Planning

A tourist cycling route passes through Ořechov, as does the Moravská vinařská cyklostezka. The “Kolem štěrkopískových jezer na rozhlednu” route also passes through Ořechov. The names point to different features: the Moravská vinařská cyklostezka refers to wine growing in its title, while the other route’s name mentions lakes and an observation tower. For cyclists, these are concrete route options in addition to the town’s cultural attractions.

When choosing where to stay, you can match these features to the purpose of your trip: the history of the castle and chapels, folklore events or cycling each offer different reasons to include Ořechov in your plans. Its cultural heritage includes enduring buildings and places of remembrance; events, by contrast, may tie your trip to specific dates.
