Cycling connections, the village’s religious history and winemaking form three distinct themes for a stay in Zlechov. When cycling, specific connections matter; when exploring local history, different periods come into focus; and when it comes to wine, you can choose between two tasting formats. This gives you a chance to consider which focus is most interesting for your trip.

Cycling with clearly named connections

Cycle route 5151 runs through Zlechov. From there, a cycling connection can be continued via Tupesy to Velehrad. These are two useful points of reference for route planning: a route that passes through the village and a connection with an explicitly named destination. The 80-kilometre Velkomoravská Pilgrimage Cycle Route is suitable for cycling enthusiasts. Check the latest route information before setting off, as details of route infrastructure can change.

The history of St Anne’s and religious heritage

The present-day Church of St Anne was built between 1992 and 1994 in the immediate vicinity of the former Chapel of St Anne. A Chapel of St Anne has been documented in Zlechov since the 14th century. In front of the church, on the village square, stands a Baroque statue of St John of Nepomuk dating from 1733. These three dates bring different historical connections into focus: the documented history of the chapel, the construction of the church in the 1990s and the date of the statue.

At the cadastral boundary of Zlechov towards Staré Město stands a stone cross known as a “Smírčí kříž” (reconciliation cross). It is one of the few surviving stone witnesses to an old legal custom in the region. The wayside shrine known as “Boží muka” is also part of the village’s religious heritage: it represents popular Baroque piety and the tradition of religious wayside monuments. Alongside the history of St Anne’s, these offer a glimpse into other forms of religious culture.

Archaeology with two points in time

Archaeological finds from two parts of the village also provide insight into periods far apart in time. In Valy, a settlement from the Late Roman Empire of the 4th to 5th centuries was found, with a total of 198 settlement features. It is one of the oldest finds of its kind in the Czech Republic and the only one of its kind to have been fully excavated. In Padělky, a Neolithic settlement dating to around 5000 BC was discovered, including Linear Pottery and stone tools such as a shoe-last adze. The sites mark two clearly distinct points in time: around 5000 BC in Padělky and, several millennia later, the settlement in Valy.

The history of winemaking and tastings

In the 16th century, Zlechov’s vineyards, covering 57 měřic, were among the largest in the region. Vinařství Jakubík offers guided tasting formats. One option includes six wine samples and lasts approximately one hour. The larger tasting includes more than 20 wines from tanks, as well as young and archived wines, and includes a tour of the production area. The formats differ both in scope and in the stated duration; no duration is given here for the larger tasting. Check the current offering before your visit.
