In Boršice, archaeological traces, local history and living traditions come together. An educational trail explores topics related to mammoth hunters, while the church and historic water mill offer further insights into the area’s cultural heritage. Recurring events add their own highlights throughout the year. You can plan your trip around whether you would rather explore history and trails or attend a festival.

Mammoth hunter traces and a short educational trail

The “Po stopách lovců mamutů” educational trail is approximately one kilometre long. Information boards, life-size wooden sculptures of animals and mammoth hunters, animal tracks and a shamanic post explore its theme. Covered seating areas are also part of the trail. The municipality recommends it to walkers, families with children, seniors, residents and visitors, as well as school groups. Its length gives you a specific point of reference for planning your time; it does not indicate how long the walk takes.

The subject extends beyond the educational trail: a mammoth hunter camp dating to around 30,000 BC was discovered at the Chrástka site. Finds include tusks and bones from several mammoths, bones from other animals and several thousand stone artefacts. The trail and the findspot therefore offer different ways of engaging with prehistory: the trail presents the subject through stations and displays, while Chrástka is known as the site of the archaeological discovery.

Church and historic mill

The Church of St. Wenceslas has been dedicated to Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of the Czech lands, since at least the 16th century. It underwent extensive renovation in 1791. The church has three altars; the main altar features a painting of Saint Wenceslas by Ignác Raab. These details make the church a destination in its own right for travellers interested in religious art and the history of the area.

Another testament to regional history is the historic Sovín water mill, also known as Horní. It still has its original milling equipment. Together with the church and the archaeological traces, it adds a range of historical themes to the picture of Boršice—from Stone Age finds to church art and milling technology.

Traditions throughout the year

Slovácké hody s právem takes place every year on the third Sunday in October. Specific programme details may vary. A programme from 2012 shows the costumed Chasa processing through the municipality on Sunday. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the programme for your planned visit.

The wine presentation is also part of the annual events calendar: it takes place on Easter Sunday, and the exact programme may vary. After paying a one-time admission fee, visitors can sample the wines of their choice; they receive a glass decorated with the event logo. Approximately 1,000 wine samples are offered. Unlike the October festival, the focus here is on tasting, while the hody have their own distinct festive programme.

The cycle route as another perspective

The Cyklostezka sv. Metoděje connects Boršice via Zlechov to the wider cycle routes in the Uherské Hradiště area. The section within the cadastral area of Boršice is 1,640 metres long and begins near the last houses, close to Dolní mlýn. The cycle route and the approximately one-kilometre educational trail are two different ways to explore the subjects described in Boršice: a section of a regional cycle network and a walking route with stations about prehistory.

The cycle route follows an old road that Saint Methodius may have regularly travelled in the 9th century. This historical connection remains a possibility, not a certainty. It adds a cultural reference to the cycle route’s name and links route planning with Boršice’s other historical themes.
