A Renaissance castle, the Church of St. Bartholomew, a technically remarkable windmill and the “Pilný mlýn” nature trail each give Litultovice a distinct character. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Litultovice, you can choose where to stay according to your interests: the development of the castle and park, religious memorials or the history of grain processing. These different themes give trip planning a clear cultural and historical framework.

Castle and park: architectural history and designed landscape

The fortress at Litultovice was converted into a Renaissance castle by Jan Stoš of Kounic; this conversion was probably completed in 1579. The building’s history thus traces its transformation from a fortress to its later Renaissance form. A landscaped park was also created by the castle in the early 19th century. Exotic trees and a bowling alley were part of its design, and a castle wall surrounds the park. The castle’s history can therefore be complemented by a distinct landscape theme: alongside changes to the building, the park grounds were deliberately laid out at a later date.

St. Bartholomew’s and its religious monuments

The present-day Church of St. Bartholomew dates from 1847 and was renovated in 1925. An Immaculata statue with an access staircase stands by the church. A marble cross was erected right next to the church in 1881; it was consecrated on January 29, 1882. The dates highlight different aspects: they relate to the church’s construction, a later renovation and a separately dated religious monument. Visitors interested in architectural and religious history can thus explore more than a single phase of construction.

Cemetery: memorial and family history

The memorial to those who fell in the First World War is set into the cemetery wall in Litultovice. A granite slab depicts the fallen; a black granite plaque on the outside bears their names. The portraits and name plaque reveal different elements of remembrance. The crypt of the cemetery chapel adds another historical connection to this place: members of the Rolsberg family rest there. Construction of the crypt was completed in 1864. The war memorial and the crypt thus represent different forms of remembrance at the cemetery.

Windmill and nature trail

The windmill in Choltice was built in nearby Sádek in 1833 and moved to Choltice in 1878. Its history therefore includes both its original building site and its later relocation. At the same time, the mill preserves complete, original grain-processing equipment, making it one of the few mills with this equipment. In contrast to the castle and church, the focus here is on the technology of grain processing.

A municipal description from 2012 mentions a dendrophone made from different types of wood on the “Pilný mlýn” nature trail, which visitors could try out and use to play simple melodies. The same description outlines a sensory path that is walked barefoot and with eyes closed. It was expected to be fully operational after the final work area was added in spring. Since the description dates from 2012, it is advisable to check the condition of the installations before your visit.
