The Chapel of St John the Baptist stands in the middle of the village square; Zlatníky also has a first written record dating to 1256. In addition, Cycle Route No. 6167 passes through the village. These features offer different perspectives to consider when planning your trip: a building at a specific location, a history spanning several centuries, and a cycle route with named stops.

Local history from the Middle Ages to the 18th century

The first written record of Zlatníky dates to 1256. At that time, the Velehrad Monastery bought the village from Smil of Bílek. This identifies a specific event in the village’s early history: its acquisition by the monastery. This medieval reference point came long before the later ownership arrangements and brewing history.

From the late 16th century until 1718, Zlatníky was an independent estate owned by the Moš of Bittendorf family. In 1717, Jan Leopold Moš had a brewery built in Zlatníky. Since the estate existed until 1718, the brewery was built in the final years of the estate period. The proximity of these dates places the brewery’s history in this era: it was established shortly before the estate ended, not afterwards.

The Chapel of St John the Baptist

The Chapel of St John the Baptist was built and consecrated in 1877. It still stands in the middle of the village square today. It was blessed after being reconstructed. The chapel was therefore built and consecrated in 1877; the reconstruction and subsequent blessing came later in its history. Chronologically, the chapel came well after the first written record and the estate period. It adds a specific 19th-century building at a clearly identified location to these earlier chapters.

Cycle Route 6167 through Zlatníky

Cycle Route No. 6167 runs from the Městské sady bus stop in Opava via Zlatníky, Stěbořice and Nový Dvůr to Hlavnice. This places Zlatníky on a route with a named starting point, several stops and a destination. For travellers interested in cycling, this raises a practical question about route choice: should the village be part of a tour that also passes through these stops? The sequence helps you place Zlatníky along the route. Before setting off, check the latest route details for the section you plan to use.

Guláš Fest and fish festivals

Events also provide a point of reference for planning your trip. In August 2025, Zlatníky held the seventh edition of Guláš Fest. On 26 September 2015, a fish festival was held at the TJ–Sokol Zlatníky sports grounds and proved very popular with local residents and visitors. The seventh edition indicates that the festival has been held several times; the fish festival is associated with a specific date and a positive response.
