Church art and forest walks give Sosnová two different starting points for planning your stay. The branch church of St. Catherine represents the history of sacred art; walks in the local forests and the described hiking trails lead outdoors. The annual Anenská pouť (St. Anne’s pilgrimage) at the Chapel of St. Anne provides another occasion. You can decide whether culture, a hike or the festival should be the focus of your trip.

Sacred Art in Sosnová

The branch church of St. Catherine was remodelled in the Baroque style from 1725 to 1727. Its defining features include rich stucco decoration, a painting by Ignace Raab and Renaissance tombs. The church is a national cultural monument. To appreciate its art history, it is worth looking at the different forms and periods: stucco is sculptural decoration, while a painting and tombs offer other artistic accents. The Renaissance tombs add an older historical dimension to the Baroque remodelling.

On the way to the church stands a Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1744. It adds a roadside monument to the picture of sacred art. Its date comes after the remodelling of St. Catherine’s: the building history of 1725 to 1727 and a statue from 1744 are concrete chronological reference points side by side.

Another cultural point of interest is the Chapel of St. Anne in the upper part of Sosnová. Its surroundings are landscaped like a park. The annual Anenská pouť takes place at the chapel. In the features described here, this place differs from St. Catherine’s: at the church, the remodelling, interior decoration and monument status shape its art-historical significance; at St. Anne’s, the landscaped grounds and recurring pilgrimage are part of the picture. If you are planning your trip around the Anenská pouť, check the event date in advance.

Walks and Hiking Trails

Walks in the local forests are possible in Sosnová. The Horní Benešov–Úvalno–Krnov tourist trail passes through the village. A hiking route runs through Sosnovský les, past Anina studánka and onwards to Sosnová. The route descriptions provide different points of reference for planning: the named sequence of places is the reference for the tourist trail, while the hiking route is defined by its course through the forest and past the spring.

Anina studánka is a drinking-water spring. If you wish to drink from it, check the local conditions beforehand. You should also check the current trail markings on site before setting out on the hiking route. If you are planning a general forest walk, the local forests offer another option; if you want to follow a described route, Sosnovský les and Anina studánka provide specific points of reference.

The cultural attractions also offer different ways to plan your visit: St. Catherine’s focuses on architectural and art history, while the Anenská pouť is an annual occasion tied to an event date. The years given help place the monuments in context; for a trip to the festival, however, the event date is what matters. This lets you plan your stay around whether you would like to take a closer look at the sacred art, go for a walk or hike, or travel to Sosnová for the pilgrimage.
