Provodov-Šonov is considered a recreational and angling centre near the Rozkoš Reservoir. Services, food, accommodation and sporting activities are available. This gives you a range of ways to plan a stay: cycling routes, a protected natural area and buildings with a history of their own. Depending on whether you are mainly interested in cycling, experiencing the landscape or exploring architectural history, different details come to the fore. You can therefore discover the destination through both outdoor activities and its local and architectural history.

Nature and Cycling Routes

Dubno in Kleny includes floodplain woodland, meadows and the Zlíčský pond; it has been a nature reserve since 1956. The woodland and meadows represent both forested and open landscape, while the Zlíčský pond adds water as a distinct feature. If you would like to focus on nature, this combination gives you a specific point of interest in the Kleny district. Its protected status, in place since 1956, also puts the natural setting in historical context.

There are two cycling routes to choose from, each with different planning details. The Cyklookruh Rozkoš runs through the districts of Šonov, Provodov, Šeřeč and Kleny. It is about 18.8 kilometres long, and takes approximately one hour and twelve minutes to ride without breaks. The distance and time help you get a rough idea of how long the loop will take. Breaks are expressly excluded from this duration, so remember to allow for them separately in your day’s plans.

A second option is the 35-kilometre route “Po stopách bojů války 1866” (In the Footsteps of the Battles of the 1866 War). It runs through Václavice, Šonov, Provodov, Kleny and Dubno and is signposted with KČT route numbers 4018, 4055 and 4056. At 35 kilometres, it is considerably longer than the approximately 18.8-kilometre Cyklookruh. These details offer different points of reference for planning: the Cyklookruh also has an approximate duration excluding breaks, while the longer route is marked with KČT numbers.

The lists of districts also distinguish the routes. Both pass through Šonov, Provodov and Kleny; the Cyklookruh also passes through Šeřeč. The list for the 35-kilometre route additionally includes Václavice and Dubno. When choosing a route, you can therefore compare not only the distance but also the stated itinerary.

Fortress and Churches: Local History

The fortress in Šonov was probably built before 1564 and demolished at the end of the 18th century. The Evangelical church in Šonov was built in 1864. The two buildings thus represent different construction periods: the date of the fortress’s construction is approximate, while the church has a specific year of construction. Together, they offer insight into the district’s long history.

The Church of Saint Wenceslas in Dobenín was remodelled in the Early Gothic style; this may correspond to the year 1325 mentioned in written sources. The connection to this year is therefore possible, but not certain. The church’s structural features also show that it could provide shelter from an enemy if needed. Its construction period and possible defensive function offer different historical perspectives on the same building.
