Vysoká Srbská combines striking landscapes with an observation tower, a protected solitary tree and historic buildings. When planning a stay, you can focus on views, architectural history, hiking, cycling or, in winter, classic cross-country skiing. For planning, it is worth checking the individual routes: the hiking trail, cycle route and cross-country ski trail differ in their course and conditions.
Landscape and Views
The Na Větrné horce observation tower is 18 metres high, and its viewing platform is 15 metres above the ground. From there, the view extends to the Polish Table Mountains, including Bor and Hejšovina, as well as Ostaš, the Javoří Mountains, Teplické skály, the Krkonoše Mountains and the Orlické Mountains. The tower is accessible year-round, and admission is free. Check access and admission information again before your trip.
Another natural landmark is the Bohadlova Lime Tree, a protected solitary tree in the cadastral area of Vysoká Srbská within the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Broumovsko). In 2001, its age was estimated at 140 years; a measurement dated 2010 gives its height as 22 metres. The years refer to different characteristics of the tree: its estimated age and its measured height.
Chapel and Historic Buildings
The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a historic monument and a symbol of Vysoká Srbská. It dates from the second half of the 19th century. Following a comprehensive reconstruction, it was ceremonially reconsecrated on 9 October 2010. Its construction and reconsecration thus mark two different stages in its history.
A notable detail is the 64-kilogram bronze bell. It bears the inscription “Svatý Václave, oroduj za nás” (“Saint Wenceslas, pray for us”) and the municipal coat of arms of Vysoká Srbská. Historic buildings also contribute to the character of the village beyond the chapel: timber-framed log houses and masonry houses from the 19th century represent two distinct building styles. There is also a stone cross in the centre of Vysoká Srbská.
Hiking Trails, Cycle Route and Cross-Country Skiing
A red-marked hiking trail leads from Hronov through Vysoká Srbská, via Machov and on to the Broumovské stěny. Cycle Route 4152 also passes through Vysoká Srbská, between Police nad Metují and Kudowa-Zdrój. The hiking route can be identified by its red markings and its course via Machov; the number and named places provide orientation for the cycle route. As route conditions can change, check the current route before setting out.
The Tkalcovský stezník leads via Závrchy and Sedmákovice to Vysoká Srbská and continues to Hronov. Another red-marked trail leads from the area around the bus stop in Vysoká Srbská to the cemetery, where the Stezka psa Voříška circular walk begins. Check the local signage if you use this trail.
For classic cross-country skiing, there is the Hronovská smyčka: the green-marked trail is 5.5 kilometres long and intended for the classic technique. It follows the route towards Vysoká Srbská, passes the cemetery and reaches the edge of the forest. Snow and grooming determine the conditions. Check them before a winter outing so you can adapt your plans to the trail conditions.
