Machovska Lhota can be explored from two perspectives: through the village’s architectural and commemorative history, or along named hiking and cycling routes with specific itineraries. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether local cultural highlights or a particular tour should be the main focus.
Buildings and remembrance
The former Protestant rectory dates from 1813 and also served as a prayer house for the Bohemian Brethren. A stone chalice sits on its chimney. Its year of construction, former religious use, and this detail on the chimney provide specific points of reference for understanding the building’s history.
The memorial to the victims of the First World War was erected in 1922; it lists 16 residents of Lhota who died in the war. The rectory and the memorial therefore represent different historical connections: the religious use of a building and the commemoration of residents who died.
The architecture of the residential houses is also part of the village’s character. On a walk through Machovska Lhota, you can see the beautifully timbered wooden houses typical of the municipality. This adds another specific feature of the village to the picture alongside its individual historic buildings.
Hiking trails with named destinations
The hiking route “Vzhůru na Hejšovinu” leads from Machov through Machovská Lhota, Pod Horou, and Pasterka. From there, the route climbs along the yellow trail and then the red trail to Velká Hejšovina, with its rock city and mountain chalet. The description therefore names both the sequence of places and the subsequent ascent to the destination. Trail conditions may vary; check them before setting out.
Another named route is the “Jak se zde dĹ™Ăv Ĺľilo” nature trail. Information published in 2021 identifies Machovská Lhota–NouzĂn as its starting point and Ostra GĂłra in Poland as its endpoint. It is described as having three stops with information boards; the texts are in Czech and Polish. As the information dates from 2021, check the route and details locally before setting out.
An international cycling tour
Cycling route no. 4000, “Okruh Stěny,” passes through Machovska Lhota and is 55 km long. It runs partly through Poland and follows a cross-border route through protected areas around ridges with rock formations and viewpoints on both sides of the national border. This gives the route a different character from the hiking trails, which have specifically named sequences of places and destinations.
These offer different points of reference when choosing a tour: the cycling route has a stated overall length, while the hiking route is described by its course through several places and the subsequent ascent. This can help you decide whether a cycling route with a specified distance or a hike with named stops and a destination better suits your plans.
Machovska Lhota and Machov
Machovska Lhota is one of Machov’s four districts. The territory of Machov belongs to the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area. Alongside the specific buildings and routes, the municipality and its protected-area setting provide further context for understanding the destination.
