For a trip to Chlivce, a protected linden tree, the history of the Chlívce line of fortifications and a marked cycling route offer three different thematic perspectives. The Obecní lípa is a natural monument with a long history; the T-S 19 Turov and T-S 20 “Na Pláni” bunkers are part of the Chlívce line of fortifications. When planning your stay, you can explore the history of the tree, military history and outdoor activities on hiking or cycling routes as separate themes.
Natural Monument and Inn History
The Obecní lípa is a protected broad-leaved linden tree, designated for protection in 2002. Its trunk circumference is 382 centimetres and it is 23 metres tall; its age is estimated at 170 years. The measurements and the age tell different stories: the circumference and height are specific measurements, while the age remains an estimate. An inn called Zur Linde stood beneath the tree by the interwar period at the latest; it may have been there earlier. The tree’s history thus connects its status as a protected natural monument with the site’s former use as an inn.
The Chlívce Line of Fortifications
The T-S 19 Turov infantry bunker is on the road between Stárkov and Červený Kostelec. Together with T-S 20 “Na Pláni,” it formed the Chlívce line of fortifications. T-S 19 has been open to the public since 2009. The features on display include reconstructions, historical photographs, a cutaway model and a relief map of the area surrounding the bunker.
The T-S 20 “Na Pláni” infantry bunker lies above Chlivce at the foot of the Jestřebí Mountains. It is on a green-marked hiking trail and about 100 metres from the road to Červený Kostelec. Its exhibition covers the Czechoslovak legionnaires in Italy, events in the Broumovsko region in 1938, and Jiří Potůček, the radio operator with the SILVER A parachute unit. Exhibitions may change. Before your visit, check access to T-S 19 and the current exhibition content. The two bunkers therefore have different focuses: T-S 19 features reconstruction details and visual materials, while T-S 20 is dedicated to historical topics and a specific individual.
Hiking Trail and Cycling Route
KČT cycling route No. 4304 runs from Krkavčina via Chlívce and Jívka II to Stárkov. It is 8.5 kilometres long and marked in white. The route description highlights views of Čáp and the legendary mountain Turov. The difference is clear when choosing an activity: T-S 20 is on a green-marked hiking trail, while the white-marked cycling route 4304 connects several places. This gives you a choice of two different ways to get around: a hiking trail by the bunker and a cycling route that passes through the named places in sequence.
