Třebíz is a destination for travelers who want to explore village history through actual buildings and places of remembrance. The Národopisné muzeum Slánska, the birthplace of Václav Beneš Třebízský and several protected buildings offer different perspectives. There are also rock reliefs and a nature trail leading from Kvílice to Třebíz. You can therefore plan your visit around three themes: rural architecture, literary heritage and historical traces in the landscape.

Open-Air Museum and Place of Remembrance

The Národopisné muzeum Slánska in Třebíz is an open-air museum. It is based on village buildings and their furnishings. This focuses attention on the built village and its interiors. If you are mainly interested in rural architecture, this offers a different perspective from that of a single memorial house.

The birthplace of Václav Beneš Třebízský is dedicated to the life and work of the writer. It is also one of three artisans’ houses preserved in the original development of the village square. The upper floor displays mementos of the writer, including his works. The house thus combines its commemorative purpose with a preserved historic building. If you are more interested in the writer, his birthplace is the more direct point of reference; the open-air museum offers a broader look at village buildings and their furnishings.

Protected buildings include St Martin’s Church, dating from 1754; the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, from the 18th century; the monument to Václav Beneš Třebízský, from 1892; and the buildings belonging to the museum. The selection ranges from religious buildings to a monument to the writer and the museum buildings. The dates distinguish St Martin’s Church, the chapel and the monument without grouping them into a single historical period.

Rock Reliefs and Traces in the Sandstone

The rock reliefs of Třebíz are notable for their sandstone rock faces and the cellars hewn into them. The rock faces were probably created by quarrying stone. Several reliefs probably date from the 17th century.

The best-preserved relief is a Pietà. Next to it is a niche containing a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Traces of sandstone working and religious depictions can thus be seen at the same site. Compared with the museum buildings and the birthplace, this place offers a different view of Třebíz’s history: here, the theme is shaped not by a house, but by rock faces, cellars and reliefs.

Nature Trail and Getting There

The “Naučná stezka Okolím Třebíze” nature trail runs from Kvílice to Třebíz and has eight stops. They cover the history of both municipalities and their significant buildings. The trail therefore extends the view beyond Třebíz and connects local history with architecture in both municipalities. If you plan to take the trail, check current trail conditions in advance.

Bus route 389 runs from Třebíz to Slaný. If you plan to use this connection, check the current timetable before setting out. This lets you consider visiting the buildings and places of remembrance, taking the nature trail and getting there as separate parts of your plans, without combining them into a fixed itinerary.
