The Church of the Assumption is the oldest building in Družec; the Pod Veselovem natural monument lies on the eastern edge of the built-up area. Together with the Družecká Calvary, a viewpoint above the Loděnice, these places offer different perspectives on Družec: local history, protected nature and landscape. When planning your visit, you can focus on culture or nature and complement your outing by following the routes described.
Church and Local Tradition
The Church of the Assumption was rebuilt in the Baroque style between 1688 and 1690 to take its present form. Its current appearance therefore dates to a reconstruction that took place over several years. Near the church in the centre stands a column with a statue of the Virgin Mary. At the cemetery wall, near the church entrance, there is also an irregularly shaped sandstone block about the size of a person, called the družecký Zkamenělec. The church, column and stone offer distinct, tangible points of reference for exploring the religious and local heritage of monuments.
Religious tradition also includes an old, legendary Gothic wooden statue of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus. It was associated with annual pilgrimages and processions. This historic pilgrimage tradition adds another aspect of Marian devotion in Družec to the church’s architectural history.
Nature in Družec
Pod Veselovem is a protected natural monument that safeguards a habitat of the black-violet pasqueflower (Pulsatilla pratensis nigricans). Its location on the eastern edge of the built-up area provides a specific point of reference for this natural feature. In Družec, the Povodí Kačáku Nature Park extends along the corridor of the Loděnice stream. The two landscape features are located in different areas: Pod Veselovem represents a protected plant habitat, while the nature park follows the stream corridor.
Calvary, Viewpoint and Monuments
The Družecká Calvary, also known as U tří křížů, is a viewpoint on a rocky outcrop above the Loděnice stream, also called Kačák. From the village square, a route about 500 metres long leads there: paved at first, then grassy towards the end. Check the condition of the route before your visit. At the highest point, three crosses stand side by side. They commemorate the crucifixion of Christ and the victims of the plague who died at the beginning of the 19th century. The viewpoint thus brings together the landscape and a specific historical memorial significance.
Another statue of Saint Peter of Alcántara stands on the road to Doksy, about 60 metres from the cemetery. The cemetery is the reference point given for this approximate distance. Together with the column near the church and the družecký Zkamenělec, the statue adds another named subject to the local heritage.
Hiking and Cycling
The shared Družec–Doksy route is intended for cyclists and pedestrians and is separated from motor traffic. It is suitable for families with children. Its use differs from the access route to the Calvary: there, a path about 500 metres long leads from the village square to a viewpoint; the route to Doksy is shared by cyclists and pedestrians.
The 34th Družecká šlápota hiking event took place in Družec on 23 May 2026. This edition is part of a recurring hiking tradition. If you would like to plan a future trip around an event like this, check the date for that year.
