Uhy offers two distinct starting points for planning a trip: the castle and bell tower in the village, and Cycle Route No. 2 running east along the Vltava. The castle stands in the village centre, while the bell tower is to the north, in front of house No. 20. The route is a separate cycling option. When choosing Uhy, you can centre your stay on local history or plan a cycling trip. These two focal points raise different questions: for the buildings, their location and history matter; for cycling, it is the current route alignment.
Castle and Bell Tower
A castle stands in the centre of Uhy. To the north, the bell tower stands in front of house No. 20. The tower is forked and stands on a stone base; it is dated to around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument under ĂšSKP number 25123/2-4083. Its location, design and dating offer several specific points of reference for distinguishing the tower from the history of the castle.
The original castle was a Baroque building erected for Count KinskĂ˝ in 1737. In the 14th century, part of Uhy belonged to the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star; later, Uhy belonged to the church of Zlonice. The historical context therefore spans medieval affiliation, the construction of the castle and the approximate dating of the bell tower to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The reference to the order applies specifically to only part of Uhy, whereas the later affiliation applies to Uhy as a whole. These differences in time and scope are important when relating the various historical references to one another.
A description last updated in 2022 states that the castle houses a kindergarten, apartments and premises for public institutions. Check the current situation before visiting.
Cycling and Walking Routes
Cycle Route No. 2 runs east of Uhy along the Vltava. If you plan to use it for a cycling trip, check the current route alignment before setting off. No marked hiking trail passes through Uhy. If you are planning to walk, consult current maps, as route network information may change. Cycling and walking therefore have different points of reference: the cycling route has a stated number and location, while no marked hiking trail passes through the village.
Choosing the Right Accommodation as Your Base
When choosing a holiday apartment or other accommodation in Uhy, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay. If you are interested in local history, the castle and bell tower are specific points of interest in the village; for a cycling trip, the route east along the Vltava is important. Compare the accommodation’s location with your plans. Choosing a base and planning a cycling route answer different questions: where would you like to stay, and which route will you include in your day’s plans? For the first, the specific accommodation location matters; for the second, the route you have checked.
