The “Radln & Betn” cycle route combines the gentle landscape of the Weinviertel with special cultural and spiritual stops. In Hollabrunn itself, a themed trail and the town museum offer more to discover—from the town’s history to archaeological traces of the region.
Cycle routes with different themes
The “Auf den Spuren der Kellerkatze” themed trail runs through the Sitzendorf cellar lane in Hollabrunn. The route is around 4 kilometres long and includes 25 stops. This combines exercise with individual stops that structure the visit. Catti’s cellar has a special focus: it features three stops designed especially for children.
The Rivaner wine cycling route also starts in Hollabrunn. It leads through Grabern and Sitzendorf an der Schmida, then on through Heldenberg and Ziersdorf, and back to Hollabrunn via Breitenwaida and Raschala. This makes it possible to explore a circular route with a clearly defined sequence of places. By contrast, “Radln & Betn” focuses on connecting the Weinviertel landscape with cultural and spiritual stops. Both routes offer different perspectives on cycling and exploration.
Town museum: archaeology and local history
The Hollabrunn Town Museum “Alte Hofmühle” is a regional museum with an archaeological and historical focus. Its permanent exhibitions are called “Der wilde Osten”, “Hollabrunn im Mittelalter” and “Stadtgeschichte”. The “Neue Archäologie” exhibition takes visitors from a Neanderthal hand axe through circular ditch complexes to the Celts of the region. Together, the exhibition themes offer insights into different historical periods and the region’s archaeological traces.
Visitors with a particular interest in the town can focus on the themes “Hollabrunn im Mittelalter” and “Stadtgeschichte” in the permanent exhibitions. The archaeological focus offers a different approach, spanning topics from early tools to the Celts. The same museum therefore explores both the town’s development and history reaching further back in time.
Places of remembrance and distinctive architecture
The Hollabrunn Jewish Cemetery is located on Steinfeldgasse, outside the town, and is an important historical monument. A total of 214 people were buried there between 1881 and 1978. Regular guided tours are offered; check in advance for an upcoming date. These dates provide a specific historical context for a visit, while a guided tour brings the cemetery’s role as a place of remembrance into focus.
The Romanesque church, known as the “Stone Bible”, was built around 1230. Its rich sculptural decoration is considered a figurative sermon in stone, unique in Europe. Audio guides and guided tours are available for the church by prior arrangement. Check the current visiting hours in advance. Visitors interested in architecture can pay particular attention to the sculptural details as well as the Romanesque period.
More regional discoveries
Near Roseldorf lies the Celtic princely seat on Sandberg, the largest open-air Celtic settlement. At the Lipizzaner Training Centre Heldenberg, the famous white horses of the Spanish Riding School are trained and prepared for performances in Vienna. The two places have different themes: Celtic settlement history is central at Sandberg, while Heldenberg focuses on training the Lipizzaners.
The Amethyst World Maissau lies directly above Europe’s largest amethyst deposit. At the treasure-digging field, visitors can dig for the violet gemstone themselves; the complex also includes an amethyst café and Austria’s largest gemstone shop. Check the current seasonal opening hours for the café and shop. The Mühlberg nature reserve adds a landscape dimension to these regional discoveries: it lies on a steep, south-west-facing slope.

Hollabrunn’s town swimming pool also offers its own recreation area: the solar-heated leisure pool has a water slide, a water mushroom and a massage bay. The pool complex also includes a double children’s paddling pool with a mini water slide. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening hours in advance. This makes it easy to tailor your visit to the focus of your trip—whether culture, a cycling route, a hike or time in the water.
