A fountain in the center of the revitalized Baroque Garden, a walking tour with ten cultural stops, and paths through cellar lanes give Ravelsbach its distinctive character. Whether you are interested in architecture, prefer exploring on foot or are planning a visit to a seasonal market, the local attractions each offer something different.
Church and Baroque Garden
The Jakob Prandtauer Church was built between 1721 and 1726 to plans by Jakob Prandtauer. Inside, the high altar and the two side altars are considered particularly worth seeing. Guided tours of the church are available on request. You can arrange a guided visit to the church by enquiring in advance.
The revitalized Baroque Garden is located right in the center of Ravelsbach. A fountain forms the centerpiece of the grounds, and the garden also offers a good view of the Hungerturm (Hunger Tower). The historic building can also be seen clearly from the rectory. The garden is freely accessible at all times. The Hungerturm cannot be visited inside due to its structural condition.
The Hungerturm originally served as a storage tower. Blocks of ice were stored there to keep food and wine fresh in summer. Its former function makes the building a different historical attraction from the church: here, the focus is on storage and cooling, while the church’s architectural history and altars draw attention to sacred architecture.
Cultural Trail, Bible Trail and Cellar Lanes
The Ravelsbach Cultural Trail starts at the main square and takes you on a circular route to ten stops. At each stop, information boards explain the history and significance of the cultural sites. The route combines exercise with information about the places and themes you encounter along the way. The Bible Trail offers a different experience: it is a walking route around Ravelsbach with numerous stops for quiet reflection and inspiration.
The cellar lanes are also a defining feature of the local network of paths. Ravelsbach has numerous picturesque cellar lanes, traversed by many cycling and hiking trails. When planning a tour, you can choose between a circular route with cultural information, the Bible Trail and paths that run through the cellar lanes. Another way to include Ravelsbach in a tour is the Schmidatal Wine Experience Tour, which passes through the village to the Baroque Jakob Prandtauer Church.
Puzzles and Special Experiences
The ravelsbach.kultur puzzle rally is available year-round, regardless of where you live. To take part, visit the individual waypoints and answer a question at each stop. This makes the rally an interactive alternative to the Cultural Trail, whose information boards explain the history and significance of the cultural sites.
The “Goosebumps at the Hungerturm” experience is designed for groups of no more than eight visitors. Participants walk about five kilometers over roughly two hours; puzzles and tests of courage are also part of the experience. The approximate distance and duration help distinguish this activity from a visit to the Baroque Garden or a walk around the village. These details apply to this experience, not to the other routes in Ravelsbach.
Christmas Market and Finding a Hotel
The Ravelsbach Christmas Market takes place every year in the run-up to Christmas, around the Jakob Prandtauer Church and the Baroque Garden behind it. In 2026, it is scheduled for December 5 and 6. Around 40 exhibitors offer handicrafts, craft items and jewelry, among other things; food and drink stalls and regional specialties are also available. A garden model railway is part of the market, too: its track is 160 meters long, and visitors can watch the trains during the Christmas rides.
If you are planning to visit during the December market days, check accommodation availability for your preferred dates.
