In Hadres, viticulture and cellar lanes reflect a long local history. The 1.6 km-long Hadres Kellertrift, traditional cellar lanes and routes connected with the Polt film series offer specific ways to discover the town. There is also a museum with seasonal visiting hours, a viewpoint with a chapel and a winter Advent market. This makes it possible to accommodate different interests in culture, local history and cycling routes when planning a trip.
Viticulture, Kellertrift and Film Route
Viticulture has been the main livelihood of the people of Hadres since the Middle Ages. This tradition is also evident in the character of the town: the Hadres Kellertrift is a cultural heritage site whose essential fabric has been preserved. It is 1.6 km long. Those interested in the town’s earlier history will find another historical point of interest in the former old cellar lane “Seitweg”. It is about 400 years old.
The Polt Trail passes through Hadres’s traditional cellar lanes. The Polt cycling route offers a longer circular tour: it is 51.56 km long and runs through the Pulkau Valley to filming locations from the Polt film series and the Hadres cellar lane. Check the route details again before setting out on a cycling trip.
Signposted international and local cycling routes pass through Hadres along the border with the Czech Republic. Both the cellar lanes and the town’s location close to the border may therefore be of interest when planning an exploration by bike.
Plan Your Visits
The Keller-WohlfĂĽhlplatz is open daily from 9:00 to 20:00 from April to October. From there, visitors can explore the longest and the oldest cellar lanes. Grape juice and water are available at the site. If this visit is an essential part of your plans, check the opening hours again before travelling.
Zeissls Museum also has seasonal visiting hours: from May to October, it is open on the first Sunday of each month from 13:00 to 17:00. Guided tours for groups are available year-round by prior arrangement and last about an hour. This means the regular opening hours differ from the option for groups to request a guided tour appointment. Check the opening hours and arrange a tour in advance if you are planning your visit around one.
At the Köllagossnmorkt, you can shop directly from regional producers. This adds a direct connection with regional products to the experience of viticulture. Check event dates before visiting.
Church and Viewpoint
Hadres parish church is in the eastern part of the town. Another local attraction worth visiting is the “Auf der Ebm beim Freiheitskreuz” viewpoint, together with the Hubertus Chapel. The chapel is located at the viewpoint. The church and chapel offer different points of interest: the former is in the eastern part of the town, while the latter is at the aforementioned viewpoint.
In winter, the longest Advent market in the Weinviertel takes place in the Hadres Kellertrift. If you would like to combine your trip with this seasonal event, check the dates in advance. Along with viticulture, the Kellertrift and year-round group tours at the museum by prior arrangement, this offers a range of different themes and visiting opportunities during your stay rather than a single set itinerary.
