Pernersdorf lies among vineyards and fields in the rolling landscape of the Pulkau Valley. The cellar lanes are part of the area’s rural architectural heritage; walking paths also follow the banks, which are covered with trees and shrubs. With the late Romanesque Church of St. Radegund and the Kirchenblick viewpoint, which offers panoramic views across the Pulkau Valley, architectural history and landscape come together as distinct ways to explore. You can focus your stay on historical details, paths through the riverside landscape, or cellar culture.
Paths and Views
Pernersdorf has ten kilometres of cycling and hiking trails. Walking paths follow the tree-lined banks; on some days, herons and kingfishers can be spotted there. The Kirchenblick Pernersdorf viewpoint opens up views across the Pulkau Valley. These perspectives offer different experiences: the paths let you explore the landscape on foot, the viewpoint draws attention to the valley, and birdwatching is a possible extra rather than a set part of the day’s itinerary.
Cellar Lanes and Architectural History
The Peigarten cellar lane is a semicircular group of wine cellars surrounding Peregriniplatzl. Alongside the individual cellars, take a look at their overall layout: the arrangement makes the group itself a distinctive architectural feature. The cellars are only accessible during events or guided tours, so check the dates before your visit. The Peregrinifest takes place at Peregriniplatzl every July. If you would like to plan your visit around this occasion, check the exact date in advance.
The Church of St. Radegund also offers a historical point of interest: it is late Romanesque and dates back to the first half of the 13th century. A Romanesque stone lion can be seen at the northeast corner of the choir. The date places the church’s construction in its historical context, while the lion draws attention to a specific architectural detail.
Bee Education Trail and Regional Snack
The Pulkautal Bee Museum offers a different theme. It includes a bee education trail with ten stations, adding a subject of its own to the range of things to do. Museum visits and guided tours are available by appointment from April to November; arrange a time in advance.
Weingarten.rocks offers a culinary option, serving traditional Heuriger snacks made with regional ingredients and given a modern touch. The village also has a conditional form of hospitality: if the door of a wine-press house or cellar is open, passers-by may be invited in for a glass of wine.
Plan Around Dates
The timing varies: the Peregrinifest takes place in July, visits and guided tours at the Bee Museum require an advance appointment and are available from April to November, and the cellars can only be accessed during events or guided tours. Check the relevant dates if one of these experiences is the deciding factor for your trip. The main themes are architectural history and cellar lanes on the one hand, and paths, riverside scenery and views on the other. This lets you decide whether a specific occasion or the landscape and architecture should shape your stay.
