Coswig lies between the Elbe floodplains, Friedewald Forest and the Spaar Mountains. Circular walks, cycling routes, church history and local produce offer different ways to enjoy a stay. You can choose your outings according to whether you prefer to spend time outdoors, discover culture or learn more about wine and aronia cultivation.
Hiking and cycling in Coswig
The KARRAS circular trail is a loop hike associated with Coswig. You can choose between 9 and 17 kilometres; the route follows forest paths and passes streams and ponds. Spitzgrundteich Coswig is recommended as a starting point. The two route lengths give you a specific guide when planning the scope of your hike.
Coswig is also on the Saxon Wine Hiking Trail and is connected to the Elbe Cycle Route. A hike from Sörnewitz to Boselfelsen offers views over the Elbe Valley. Hohe Stein in Friedewald Forest is one of Coswig’s viewpoints. The circular trail, river views and viewpoints therefore offer different landscape experiences to consider when planning your outing. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Church, museum and culture
The Old Church was consecrated in 1497 and is considered one of the most beautiful village churches in Saxony. The church also houses a Renaissance organ regarded as the oldest organ in Saxony. The building’s history and the organ come together at a site that vividly brings Coswig’s ecclesiastical past to life.
The permanent exhibition at the Karrasburg Museum covers Coswig and its districts. Topics include archaeology, everyday and working life, and church history. Individual displays may change. A visit to the museum thus complements the architectural history of the Old Church with insights into past ways of life and the history of the districts.
During workshop tours at the Folprecht blue-print workshop, carved printing blocks made from fruitwood and decorated with traditional folk patterns are shown. If you plan to take this tour, check its availability in advance. Villa Teresa hosts chamber concerts and theatre evenings; programme details vary, and specific dates depend on the current programme.
Wine and aronia from Coswig
There are four wineries in Coswig. Aronia is also grown locally: around 40 hectares in the districts of Kötitz and Brockwitz are under aronia cultivation. You can reach the plantations by bicycle via the Elbe Cycle Route; aronia products can be sampled at the information wagon. As local visiting arrangements may change, check the conditions for visiting the plantation and information wagon before your trip.
Kötitz bathing lake and campsite
Kötitz bathing lake includes a natural swimming lake with a nudist beach. The complex also has swimming pools with a 47-metre water slide, a water mushroom and water jets. Opening is seasonal; check the conditions before your visit. Kötitz campsite is right next to the natural lake and the Elbe Cycle Route. The campsite’s access and operation are also seasonal, so check before travelling.
