Weinböhla brings together viticulture and local history, with routes through vineyards and to observation towers. When planning your visit, you can choose different focuses: historical exhibitions, views, cycling or hiking.

Viticulture and local history

Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Traminer, Pinot Noir and Dornfelder grapes grow on terraces at Ratsweinberg. Around 25 hectares of vines are cultivated in Weinböhla. Viticulture has long been established here: wine was being grown in the village by 1513 at the latest. The south-facing slopes, with their favorable climate, encouraged cultivation.

The local history museum in the historic Peterkeller winery presents the history of the village and viticulture, as well as changing special exhibitions. The building complex dates back to 1622, and the museum’s half-timbered main building to 1794. More than 600 historical objects are on display. At Peterkeller, the village’s history, the development of viticulture and the historic buildings come together.

Weinböhla is a state-recognized health resort. The historic village center retains the layout of a Rundling, a circular village. On Kirchplatz, the historic ballroom of the Zentralgasthof is part of the cultural heritage ensemble. The village’s appearance, settlement layout and architecture thus offer different insights into its history.

Vineyards, routes and views

Wartturm stands above Ratsweinberg at an elevation of 211 meters above sea level and can be visited at any time of day. From there, vineyards frame views across the Elbe Valley from Meißen to Radebeul. Marked routes lead to towers and vineyards, with views stretching from the Elbe Valley at Meißen to the Lusatian Mountains. You can choose between a named viewpoint and other routes through wine country.

The village pond is also part of the local landscape: it lies in a park beside the uncovered Gabenreichbach stream, which flows through the grounds.

Cycling and hiking

The “Rund um Weinböhla” cycling route is a 29.95-kilometer loop of moderate difficulty. It starts and finishes in Weinböhla. Points along the route include the Zentralgasthof, Martinskirche, Peterkeller, Wartturm, König-Albert-Turm, Friedensturm, Wolfsdenkmal, Jungernbrücke and Fuchsberg. The stated route length and named stops give you a concrete guide for your tour.

For a hike, the Saxon Wine Hiking Trail passes through Weinböhla. Marked routes to towers and vineyards are another local option. The cycling network also connects to the Elbe Cycle Route. You can choose from different types of routes: a loop with named stops, routes through wine country, or a connection to the Elbe Cycle Route.

VELOCIUM adds two distinct options to the cycling activities. The paved pump track supports balance and coordination training in almost all weather conditions. VELOCIUM also offers historic bicycles on an outdoor test course.

The cycling route’s starting point can be reached by regional trains RB 31, RE 15, RE 18 and RE 50, as well as buses 411, 421 and 403. Check transport information before setting out.
