On the Franconian Literary Trail, you’ll encounter authors from the Middle Ages to the present day whose works are about Franconia. The accessible circular trail runs for 2.2 kilometres around the town fortifications of Wolframs-Eschenbach; 15 panels give literary themes a permanent place along the route. This brings together a clearly defined circular trail and a long span of literary history. The Franconian Literary Trail in Wolframs-Eschenbach is therefore a literary discovery in its own right.

Discover history along the way

The Löhe and History Trail in Neuendettelsau also brings history to life along a route. It takes visitors back to the 19th century, when Pastor Wilhelm Löhe worked in Neuendettelsau. The trail leads to various stops in Neuendettelsau and to the churches in Reuth and Wernsbach; each stop has an information panel. Along the way, visitors can see the Löhe Era Museum and the Mission One World Exhibition. Biography, local history and individual stops are thus brought together along a route rather than confined to a single exhibition space.

Everyday objects and craftsmanship

The “Weighing & Measuring” Museum in Königshofen a.d. Heide displays more than 4,000 exhibits. These include historic scales and their corresponding weights, measuring rods, tape measures and vessels for measuring grain. The examples range from weighing and measuring lengths to measuring grain. This makes it possible to explore the collection through different types of measurement, not just individual objects.

The German Brush and Paintbrush Museum in Bechhofen a.d. Heide focuses on something different. Its permanent exhibition features household cleaning tools as well as specialist brushes and paintbrushes used in crafts and industry. In contrast to the collection of historic measuring equipment, the focus here is on practical objects and tools. Together, the two museums show how everyday life and work can be explored through tangible objects in very different ways.

Water and landscape

At the Wörnitz river swimming pool, you can swim in a lagoon-like shallow-water area with filtered water from the Wörnitz. The pool is located directly on the Wörnitz, on the connecting road between Wassertrüdingen and Reichenbach. Facilities also include a waterslide, a children’s mud-play area, a playground and a volleyball court. The combination of a swimming area and other activities makes this a different kind of excursion destination from the cultural trails and museums.

Krummweiher is located southeast of Königshofen a.d. Heide. It can be reached on foot from the Dorfstraße bus stop in about 15 to 20 minutes. This information helps you plan your walk to the pond.

Frankenhöhe Nature Park covers about 1,100 km² and lies within the districts of Ansbach and Neustadt a.d. Aisch–Bad Windsheim, as well as the independent city of Ansbach. Its landscape is particularly well suited to recreation. The park provides information about hiking and cycling trails, as well as ranger-led tours. It is also the source of the Altmühl, Fränkische Rezat and Zenn rivers. Frankenhöhe thus combines opportunities for recreation with a geographical distinction: several rivers rise here.

At Hesselberg, the Hesselberg Trail leads to the mountain’s most beautiful spots and provides information about nature, history and geology. Guided hikes on a range of themes are also offered at Hesselberg. Groups can book them individually; options include activities for children’s groups, birthday parties, school classes and holiday programmes. The grounds of Dennenlohe Castle are on a different scale: they cover about 26 hectares. A vast nature park and a clearly defined castle park thus offer two distinct landscape settings.
