Adelshofen combines paths through vineyards with village scenes and historical traces in several communities. When planning your trip, it is worth noting the differences: the Lachenweg follows an uphill hollow way, the Hasennestle circular hiking trail is about 4.8 kilometres long and is not accessible. There is also a cycling route along the Tauber and buildings with stories of their own.

Hiking Trails Between Vineyards and the Landhege

The Lachenweg climbs through an old hollow way and offers views of former and still-cultivated vineyards. Along the way, it crosses the Rothenburg Landhege, a historic rampart that is still visible today. The Hasennestle offers a different experience: the circular trail starts at St. Vitus Church in Tauberzell and leads through vineyards. From there, views open up over Tauberzell and the valley stretching from HoldermĂĽhle to Tauberscheckenbach.

The Hasennestle is not accessible: the two levels of the vineyard are connected only by an unpaved path. Before setting out, check accessibility information and local parking conditions. The Hegereiterweg cycling and hiking trail also offers a distinctive way to explore the landscape: it passes directly through GroĂźharbach. A hike from Tauberscheckenbach to Gickelhausen goes through the scenic Gickelhausen Valley.

Cycling and Discovering Nature

Near Tauberscheckenbach, cyclists cross the Tauber and join the “Liebliches Taubertal” cycling route. The municipality of Adelshofen lies directly on the “Romantische Straße” in the Liebliches Taubertal; the road also passes directly through Tauberzell. These two roads provide orientation for travellers planning their time by bike or along the route.

Another distinctive feature is the “Wildobstwiese Tauberzell” (Tauberzell Wild Fruit Meadow). It showcases 20 wild-fruit and fruit trees in 16 different varieties; interpretive signs provide information about the plants. This adds botanical information to the impressions of the trails and landscape, without implying that there is another circular route.

Church, Traditions and Viticulture

The church dedicated to Saint Nicholas stands in the centre of Adelshofen. It is associated with the “Kirchweihausgraben” tradition, kept alive by the village’s young people: during a procession through the village, local events are portrayed humorously. Viticulture has shaped Tauberzell’s history, with a tradition there spanning more than 800 years. The character of the Franconian Häckerdorf (a village of small-scale winegrowers) has been preserved to this day.

Historical Traces in the Communities

In Großharbach stands a Landturm dating from 1606, which forms part of the Rothenburg Landhege. Neustett’s best-known building is a round tower in the centre of the village, formerly used as a wind-powered oil mill. Gickelhausen has preserved two further landmarks: in the cemetery stands an altar table from a former chapel, preserved as a monument and held in high regard by local residents. South of the village pond is the old Brechhaus, which still stands and was restored by the municipality in the 1970s.

The HautschenmĂĽhle on the Tauber is also part of the municipality of Adelshofen. Its Baroque half-timbered gables provide a different architectural accent from the former utility buildings in Neustett and Gickelhausen. If you are looking for a hotel in Adelshofen, you can choose according to your interests: vineyard landscapes and hiking trails, cycling along the Tauber, or local history and historic buildings.
