Oberdachstetten lies in the upper reaches of the Rezat in a forested upland area; the municipal area is part of the Frankenhöhe Nature Park. The Rezat Spring is also located within the municipality, on the hiking trail from Oberdachstetten to Marktbergel. If you are planning a stay, there are various ways to spend your days here hiking, cycling, visiting churches or taking a trip to the water.

Hiking trails of varying lengths

The European Watershed Trail can be used to explore the municipal area on foot. There are also several circular hiking trails offering specific options for different distances. The “Storch” trail leads from Oberdachstetten via Urphertshofen and back. It is 6.7 kilometers long, has 160 meters of elevation gain and is rated moderate.

The moderately challenging “Roter Milan” loop is 7.4 kilometers long. Its route goes via Waldeslust, the Spinnerin, the burial mound, the Rezat Spring and the quarry, then returns to Oberdachstetten via Waldeslust. Also rated moderate are “Eichblatt,” a 9.5-kilometer route via Buchenberg, the hunting lodge and Spielberg, and “Bachstelze,” a 13.8-kilometer route via Spielberg, the B 13 south of Hohenau and Mitteldachstetten. Both circular trails start and end in Oberdachstetten.

For an easy alternative, the 7.2-kilometer “Steinpilz” circular trail starts and ends in Anfelden and leads via Landsknecht and the Schwedenkreuz. It is therefore slightly longer than the moderately rated “Storch,” but is classified as easier. You can compare both the stated difficulty and the distance when choosing a trail. Trail conditions and signage may change; check the current situation before setting out.

Individual sights are also located along hiking trails: the Teufelsgraben and the so-called Spinnerin lie on the trail from Oberdachstetten to Westheim. A grave monument in the shape of a Romanesque cross commemorates the Spinnerin. In the “Weiherboden bei Anfelden” nature reserve, one area includes important wetland habitats for specific animal and plant species, which are preserved through extensive land management.

Churches, history and the parish fair

The churches in the municipal area reflect a variety of historical and architectural influences. St. Bartholomew’s Church in Oberdachstetten was built between 1837 and 1844 in the Munich Classical style. The church in Berglein is a fortified church; medieval masonry remains have been preserved in its choir tower and adjoining sacristy.

The church in Mitteldachstetten was first mentioned in a document in 1122. Its choir tower was built at the end of the 14th century and has loopholes. The local church history thus ranges from an early documentary mention to surviving medieval architectural features and a 19th-century building.

A recurring event in the annual calendar is the parish fair, held every year on the third Sunday in October. The traditional parish fair procession ends with the “Pariser Eilrad.” If you would like to plan your visit around the festival, check the program for the relevant date in advance.

Swimming area, travel and cycling routes

The municipal swimming area offers a chance to cool off in the water, a sunbathing lawn and a volleyball court; restroom facilities are available. There is also a youth campsite with an operational building and swimming area on the edge of Oberdachstetten. If you are considering this accommodation option, check booking requirements and availability in advance.

Oberdachstetten railway station can serve as a starting point for many day trips and for travel to and from Nuremberg and WĂĽrzburg. Check the timetables for your travel date to find a specific connection. There are also several options for cycling trips: the Bibert Valley Cycle Path passes through Oberdachstetten and can be linked with the Castle Road Cycle Path and the Zenn Valley Cycle Path through Romantic Franconia. The Aisch Valley Cycle Path, coming from Bamberg, passes through the municipal area. You can therefore focus your stay on hikes, churches and local history, or on cycling routes, without trying to fit every activity into a single trip.
