The Josefa Váni Educational Trail gives a stay in Slopné a clear focus: the yellow-marked route passes over Klokočí to Vizovice and is 5 km long. The journey to the centre of Vizovice adds another 3.5 km. Plan for this additional distance separately from the length of the educational trail. The starting point in Slopné can be reached by car or bus. If travelling by bus, it is worth checking the timetable, as service frequency may vary.

Landscape between the valley and the hills

Slopné lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava stream. The landscape is hilly and largely forested, with woods, fields and meadows forming a mosaic. Naturally winding paths and numerous viewpoints are also part of this landscape. Čertovo kopyto is a remarkable natural feature in Slopné.

The area also has a varied geographical setting: the southern part of Slopné lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The northern part of the cadastral area lies within Vizovické vrchy Nature Park. These designations apply to different parts of the area. If you are interested in the landscape, they offer further points of reference beyond the educational trail, and you can connect your walk with views of the different landscape forms.

Religious dates and local customs

The pilgrimages provide two regular occasions during the year. The small pilgrimage is held every year on the second Sunday in July, marking the anniversary of the consecration of the new church. The large pilgrimage takes place on the third Sunday in August for the feast of St Roch. If you plan to travel for either celebration, arrange your trip around the respective Sunday.

St Roch’s Church in Slopné was consecrated on 14 July 1996 by Jan Graubner, Archbishop of Olomouc. It is a branch church of the Újezd parish. Another historical landmark is the stone chapel of St Roch, built or completed in 1824. The two buildings therefore represent different periods in the history of the area.

For its annual carnival, Slopné maintains a masked procession now called Fašanky, formerly known as Babkovníci. The Easter customs Klepačka and Mrskačka have also been preserved. For trip planning, these traditions provide a different seasonal marker from the two pilgrimages: you can plan your stay around the custom that interests you most, rather than fitting several dates into one trip.

Technical monument and winter activities

Slopné has a roller mill from the 19th century that is preserved as a technical monument. It was restored in 1991 and continues to operate as a commercial mill. If you would like to include the mill in your plans, enquire in advance about visitor access.

In winter, the ski lift offers another reason to visit: the ski slope is about 400 m long and has a vertical drop of 90 m. Thanks to artificial lighting, you can also ski there in the evening. Whether it operates depends on snow and local conditions, so check before travelling in winter.

Choose your stay based on what brings you here

When looking for accommodation in Slopné, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on during your stay. The educational trail offers a specific hiking route, the pilgrimages and customs are tied to particular dates during the year, and the ski lift is a seasonal winter activity. For the educational trail, you can also count the 5 km route and the additional 3.5 km to the centre of Vizovice as separate sections.
