Rudimov lies south of the picturesque Poolšaví, among wooded hills in the valley of the Třešňůvka stream; its average elevation is 334 m. The entire cadastral area lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. Nature and local history exist side by side here: orchards and ecological refuges meet traditional crafts, wooden monuments, and archaeological evidence.
Landscape and Nature
Extensive high-trunk orchards shape the landscape of the White Carpathians. Native regional fruit varieties grow there, adapted to natural conditions. Rudimov’s extensive orchards also serve an ecological function: they provide a refuge for orchids and specialized insects, as well as for birds displaced from intensively farmed agricultural landscapes. The landscape can therefore be understood not only through its wooded hills and the Třešňůvka valley, but also through these habitats and regional fruit varieties.
Crafts and Historical Evidence
One local craft tradition is animal castration: it has been documented in Rudimov since 1545 and was practiced by nearly all adult men at the beginning of the 20th century. A wooden log-frame bell tower dating from 1780 is listed under number 2063. A folk artist created the richly carved wooden cross in 1820; it is listed under number 2064.
The archaeological finds also reach far back in time: they date from the Eneolithic, the Hallstatt period, the Celtic period, and the Early Middle Ages. The remains of the Slavic hillfort of Gradca are located in the Zachrástí–Ploštiny field area. Protected burial mounds are located in the fields of Gradca, Spalica, and Paličky. The war memorial to local victims of the First World War consists of an artificially constructed, pyramid-shaped group of unworked sandstone blocks; a sculpture depicts a woman and a dying soldier. A second war memorial commemorates Romanian and Soviet soldiers who were killed in an artillery attack near the village during the Second World War.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through the cadastral area, connecting Slavičín and Bojkovice. Check that the trail markings are up to date before setting out. Cycling routes 5054, from Slavičín to Luhačovice, and 5056, from Bojkovice to Luhačovice, also pass through the cadastral area. The moderate circular route “Ze Slavičína na Petrůvku” is 15 km long, has an elevation gain of 238 m, and runs around Rudimov.
The information offers different points of reference when choosing a route: the circular route is described by its length, elevation gain, and difficulty level; the hiking trail by the connection between its endpoints; and the cycling routes by their numbers and destinations. Before setting out, check the current signage and surface conditions; also find out about current trail conditions for the circular route.
Museum, Swimming, and Local Products
The Aviation Museum in Rudimov displays a collection of aircraft and ship models. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August from 2 to 4 p.m.; confirm visiting hours in advance. If the museum is part of your travel plans, this time window may also influence your search for a holiday apartment in Rudimov.
A report dated August 12, 2024, mentions a biotope or multipurpose pool for swimming at the entrance to the village, beyond the sports area. Check current swimming conditions and access before visiting. The Maso z lúky / Farma Rudimov shop sells meat, sausages, jerky, dried plums, pears, chutneys, sauces, and other local products. Check opening hours before visiting. Direct pickup of products is available at Rudimov 105, 763 21; arrange pickup in advance.
The local food culture also has a historical tradition: many farmsteads had fruit dryers. Dried fruit was exported from the village on a large scale, and povidl (plum butter) was cooked in several places. Together with today’s product range, this history shows two different sides of local food culture, without implying that historical food processing is a visitor offer today.
